Humidity

I have just switched to a 50 watt bulb from a 40 watt bulb to bring up the ambient temperature in the tank. This has worked a treat, howver the humidity has dropped to 38% from around
45-50%. How is best to get it back up again please?

If you have a screen top, try covering it with a few layers of foil to reflect the heat back in, and keep the humidity from escaping. If you already have done this and your humidity wont stay up, place a damp towel over top half of the tank. Soak it then ring it out every morning. Also make sure if you do this, you change the towel often to prevent bacteria build up. Hope that helps.

I was able to bump my humidity up by covering my screen top with a piece of plexi glass. I had the glass shop cut the plexi to size and I routered out a hole for my lamp. It worked out well for me.

I cut some plexiglass out to cover the top of my tank (its like plexi-glass but a little more managable) and discovered it did help but not as much as I had hoped for. (my tank is a little tall) I actually made 3-D plexiglass covers for the damp towels I have on my tank...it works great!

I probably should have said that my tank is a wooden front opening one so dont think that would work. Would putting a damp cloth inside the tank help or spraying water somehow?

You could mist the enclosure daily, as well as increase the diameter of your water dish. I've never tried using a damp cloth in the enclosure but trial and error is your friend. You could also make a humid hide using some spagmum(sp?) moss.

I just keep some lightly dampened sphagnum moss in my tank when its really dry, I have also noticed the little humidifier I keep in my room makes about a 5% difference in the tank, and keeps my room around 50.

Sorry, but damp towels mixed with heat is just disgusting.. An inevitable petri dish that gets filtered down into your snake's lungs.. Ick!

Well when you live in Canada and the humidity hangs around 30% in the winter, what can you do. I wash those towels with dish soap and hot water every other day just to let you know;) and throw them in the laundry a few times a month.

haha, its not that advanced. Its kind of like making those little easter boxes out of paper in grade 2, just with plastic. I would take pictures but I don't want to start a whole thread for it and I don't want to hijack this one:)

Some good idea coming through I think. Tried a jar of water with holes in top but didnt work, prob wasnt big enough. Gonna try extra water dish as heated end, see if that helps. My room's not best for humidity.

I picked up a little humidifier for $15 on sale at the hardware store because my boyfriend had dry skin all the time, I think it helps keep the tank a little damper too, if I forget to mist it never drops below 50 unless the humidifier shuts of (its on a timer)
