So Frustrated!!!Warning: Rant. Calming words appreciated...
I am going to burst with anger toward paypal! I believe I am a relatively level headed and calm individual but arggggggggggg Im so frustrated!! Paypal had screwed up payments and transactions with me several times now but this is the last straw. I was sent a refund from a buyer for the fujifilm s700 camera I purchased because he mis-calculated shipping and it was way higher than expected so I found the same camera here in Canada. But now paypal is throwing around my money somewhere in limbo!! I sent the payment 5 days ago and I received an email from paypal stating the refund will take 3-4 days so I called paypal.

After waiting 30mins on a long distance phone call because there is no 1-800 number I spoke with a kind but bearly able to speak English young woman. She knew less about the transaction than I did. She then proceeded to tell me after several awkward minutes of her searching my account, that the refund will take approx 10 days because I am in Canada.

So I asked what was up with the e-mail. She said it was for US customers and it was incorrect. What the heck!!? They should at least know I am in Canada, they have every bit of information about me possible!! After searching the site for somewhere to send a complaint, I discovered you cannot send complaint, simple as that. So now $200 of MY money will be out and about for 15 days, and me with no camera and minus $200. ARGGGG PAYPAL! I HATE YOU!!

I dislike paypal alot too... But there are very few other alternatives out there.

Google Checkout works, but no animal sales... :(

    Hey Missi~
:rage: It's a giant drag when people don't give back our money...wonder if they're making interest on it too?
I don't like PayPal at all and yet I have had to use a couple of times and more often then not there has been a glitch; their glitch. It's a drag. Do you have a credit card? That is my way around PayPal- I just pay by credit card and then pay the credit card back. I think I heard that Google own PayPal...maybe there is a grievance procedure through them... I'm so sorry that this has happened.... :(

I bet they are making interest off of the money, I can almost guarantee it. I have considered paying directly with my visa but I have always been concerned about the private info going out without paypal. I hate them but I trust them.

That sucks!! There is nothing worse than having someone else play around with your money. I guess I have been lucky, I have used PayPal in excess of 20-30 times, and never had a problem. Just think of it like a savings account, by the time you have access to the funds again, you will know for sure if you really want the camera, or if you found something better.
I am an impulse buyer and alot of the time, I realize I dont want or need, whatever it was I just spent hundreds of dollars on.:colbert:i'm bad at that.

As with any business transaction evryone will take your $ real fast and drag their feet when it's time to give some back. Being in another country or even state gives them a reason to drag their feet even more.

I am not endorsing this behavior by any means but this is the reality of the business world and the sooner we come to grips with it the sooner we can make the best choices. Try to chaulk it up to a learning experience and not get yourself in a negative mindset. That will only make it worse, trust me. At least your are getting your $ back. Coulda been worse.

It happens to all of us we pull the trigger before we picked the best target.

Next time you will be all the wiser from this experience;)

    Hi guys,

I can certainly appreciate this situation. I hate it when this happens. Your money is tied up because of credit card processing companies. They do this all the time.

For instance, you come into our retail store to buy something for, lets say $100.00. Lets also say that you use a VISA checkcard that draws directly from your bank account. We ring it up and charge your card but OOPS we made a mistake (or you decided not to get it, or you bring it back, even later that very same day) and we VOID (not refund, the charge was being refunded that very same day so it is considered a VOID not a REFUND) the charge. It took about 30 seconds for that money to post that it has left your bank and you know it takes like 7-10 business days to get it back?!? And that money already came out of YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT, it was not just drafted onto a month credit card bill! What a bunch of CROOKS!

Yes they are using YOUR money INTEREST FREE and that's after they've already charged the merchant (person or business selling the product/service) a fee of 1.9% - 2.9% for the transaction.

Please keep all this in mind when buying from an honest business person that you like. If you can pay another way, other than credit cards or PayPal, do it. That business would appreciate that and you are also not supporting these types of companies as much.

I know we live in a digital world where people don't even know what cash smells like anymore but its crazy how many consumers DON'T KNOW that this crap goes on!

    Good luck with your situation...

    Exactly!

    :gj:

My husband works in auto parts sales and does a lot of phone business. Heck...99% of his sales ARE otp sales...and everybody wants to use their credit cards. He gets really annoyed with it because of all of everthing you said, Sean.

I...hate credit cards. They are a rip. I do have a debit card...but not Credit. :colbert:

    My middle name is "Cash".

I can't stand paypal, but unfortunately I don't have much choice to use it for ebay. Between the outrageous fees and their terrible service... Not to mention 99 out of 100 times they side with the buyer, regardless of evidence.

And that takes forever to get worked out. Its stupid. The last screw-up they made with me was I specified during a transaction (by selecting visa as m first payment method) that I wanted to use my visa, I even had a confrimation e-mail, transaction details, everything said I used visa, YET they took the money out of my SAVINGS account!! SO ofcourse that bounced and my bank charged me $60!! Paypal never gave me that money, even though I could so obviously prove they fudged up...rarw!!

I sympathize with you. I've had the same type of thing happen with paypal... they're... let's say... shady? About things.
You'll eventually get your money but the wait sucks! IE my nearly month wait to get 560.00 back so hang in there!

Sorry to hear about your issues with PayPal. I've never used it because I've heard so many times about problems with their system.

It's a problem though like Sean said, that affects all sorts of these electronic transactions. I decided to try the electronic payment deal through my electric company for the first time a couple of months back. They were advertising it as convienient and fast and yadda yadda. So I phone in, I give them all the right numbers and then they inform me that it costs me $3.95 to pay them! Okay so it's a bit irritating. The electric company doesn't actually do the transaction, they transfer you to another company so you get to pay their cost of doing business but I figure it's worth it that day for me.

What wasn't worth it was them taking an almost $200 electric bill out TWICE and to add further insult to injury, charging me not TWICE but THREE times for that $3.95 service charge! When I phoned in rather hot under the collar, I was informed that it would take about 10 days to refund my money. They messed up in 10 minutes on the phone but heck I can wait 10 days now can't I.

Some convenience...blech. I've never used that system again.

Just a good word of advice...
I went through bankruptcy a few years back. And went through credit counseling before that.
The credit expert told us to do this.. NOT w/ paypal mind you but in your daily use of your bank/debit/atm card.
IF your card as the Visa/MC logo..
Always ... always choose to pay using the credit aspect of your card NOT the debit.
Using the credit aspect, the store must pay to process your card.
Using the Debit aspect (IE you input your PIN), you are charged a fee for using your card.
The stores always prefer you to use your pin, just remember you can hit the "cancel" button while doing your transaction it will then ask you, "Credit" or "cancel".. hit credit.. sign your name and the store will be charged a transaction fee. NOT you.

Just an FYI from some one who has been there...

Re: So Frustrated!!!Warning: Rant. Calming words appreciated...
We had a really bad problem with paypal just recently. What happened wasn't their fault, but how they handled it, or rather didn't handle it, didn't impress me.
I sent out a paypal payment for $535.00 for some animals. I typed in the address wrong and the payment went to someone it wasn't intended for.
As soon as I became aware of the problem, I contacted paypal. They told me they couldn't do anything about it. If the party that got paid in error wanted to return the money, they could, if not, to bad for me. $535.00!!!!!!!!!
Thankfully the person refunded them money, but paypal did nothing and didn't seem to care at all.
Plus I just found out that paypal isn't run as I thought. I thought it was safe to pay anyone from a paypal account and you could dispute it with them if you didn't get your merchandise or it was not as advertised. That only works with Ebay though, if you use paypal for anything else and it goes wrong, to bad for you, they only police Ebay.
