Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
Somebody PLEASE HELP DA BOY!!!!!
Ok so here the gig. I got a female that has been bred to two of my males only gotten 5 good locks between the two of males now she is a lean 2500 grams. I haven't seen any developing behavior like I have in my other females. She shed like over a month ago changed colors quit eating then this weekend I see this.

Well last night I fed with no luck for her she didn't eat. This morning I walk in checking animals before work and I see this. Could this be building or is this an OV I haven't felt any folicals in her as of Sunday. No bowl wrapping like my other girls. I am just at a loss No POS. Is there such thing as a mock OV or again is this just her building. I guess if she sheds in a week or so I'll know want I? I just hope that she doesn't slug out on me but I'm not feeling any folicals at all not even slug size. I am jsut really freaking out here any input would be hot.

God I hope not...I haven't felt any folicals none not even one..But then I could be missing them.

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
i vote ovulation.
hope your incubator's ready ;D

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
Likely ovulation, since I know it's harder to tell in the bigger girls. I had a female last year who was 2700g and I never saw an ovy. If she migrates over to the warm side, then I'd say ovulation. :)

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
What about not feeling any folicals.. I mean I could just suck at palping and be missing them. But that I doubt. Thanks for all the input guys. :D Keep it coming

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
That's a tough call Frog man...How long have you been breeding her? The 1st pic does look like ovulation but the 2nd pic looks more like building...You haven't felt any follicles in her at all?...I know for me it's a little harder to feel eggs (once they do ovulate) than follicles...Once follicles are 30 - 35 mm - There pretty hard not to be able to feel - Their like golf balls...If I were in your shoes - I'd keep pairing her up and see if your males still breed her...If she still wraps the water bowl on the cool end I'd say still building - If she makes her way to the heat and stays in that "perfect curl" - She's cooked...Sorry I couldn't be of more help -

You're probably not feeling any follicles because they aren't there anymore ;)
If you palpate her now, there should be long masses in there that feel like marshmallows or slightly softer, starting around her mid-section. I always use a papertowel or a small snake bag to palpate, and it helps alot. Are you palpating with your thumb on her back or your thumb on her belly?

Ed,
Sometimes they do look pretty big when they are building, however, my guess would be ovulation. What I would do, is watch her close, and look for her shed in about 10 days. As Becky said, she will also probably migrate to the hot side (if she hasn't already). I know you said you palpate horribly, but after she sheds, try again, as the eggs are alot bigger than the follicles (the problem is that eggs are softer than follicles), so this may cause you to miss them as well.
Side note: let this be a lesson that not all Ball Pythons have been to Mark Mandic's website, and they do not know all of the signs that they are suppossed to give you. They don't always give you every sign, and sometimes they give you none.
Hope that helps,

No every little bit helps man. to tell you the true I suck at palping. I have been breeding her since Jan but didn't see my first lock with her till like first of Feb. she has only had about 4-5 good locks since then now I see this so I am thinking this is just building but the way she was laying in the first pic I swore OV.
Thanks BT

I palp with my thumb on her back and my forefinger on middle finger on her belly I also close my eyes helps me feel (old mechanics trick for feeling something you can't see) I'll try the paper towel trick and see if I can get a good feel on her

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
I can't palpate without using a paper towel, or the bottom of my t-shirt that I'm wearing - they don't go as smoothly through my hands unless I do it that way. It's like my fingers skip over their skin when I try to go it bare-handed. The papertowel or t-shirt reduces friction and makes any follicles easier to feel for me.

I tell Frog man - Once you think you have them figured out they throw you a curve ball...I have girls that I have been breeding since Nov. and can only feel little bitty follicles...I have girls that I have only breed 3 - 4 times and their super close to ovulation...Makes a lot of sense huh? Just keep a eye on her and pay attention to were she spends the majority of her time - Cold side or hot side...When in doubt - Keep pairing her up...I palpate just like you except I don't close my eyes - When the follicles are small - I do squeeze pretty hard though...:gj:

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
I vote for building...Ive always noticed a change in the way the stomach feels after the ovulation as its more marshmellow like...
Good Luck.. Id put the male in as well.

Nice ovy! I see 5 eggs in there!!

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
Ovulation or building humm to me it looks ov all the way but I do know that some have incredible swelling while building.
Instead of worrying about if it's one or the other just follow her behavior from here on out. In the next few days if you see her bowl wrapping and laying cold then she didn't ovulate. If she's glued to the heat in a nice tight coil and shed 10-15days later bingo it's hammer time baby.
Either way I'd keep breeding her and practicing my palpating :)
ps My name shouldn't be on the title of this thread. That being said I don't mind sharing my vast months of experience.lol

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
Well thanks everyone for the input. It was an OVY! Yea me she went down last night and I got to feel what I think is 3-4 nice soft eggs in her. Heres the thing I have no clue who the dad will be she has been bred to a spider and a pastel so we shall see fired up the ole "bater" when I get me POS then the count is on..
Again thanks to Adam, Kara, Kevin, Tim, Sean, BT, Larry, Jas and all the BP.net people that have helped calm my nerves and given me nothing but great advice and taught me how to breed these great animals..
Good luck every body

Re: Help!!!! Jas, Tim, Adam, Bt, Larry, Somebody
I am not a pro but that is a tough one to call. To be safe I would.....
(1) make sure your incubator is ready and running.
(2) keep the male in with her. Now is a good time to put the male in you want eggs from the most.(just in case she is still building)
(3) If she starts going into shed with in the next 10-14 days it is pretty safe to assume she is gravid.
Good luck with those eggs.
Each year we see ball pythons doing different things. This year I had a female swell up for a week or so. Then ovualted and went down then ovualted the next night again. Two huge Ovs. I had heard of it in boas but not ball pythons. She is due to lay the end of the month.
