Shed Number One

Well Furio has all but a centimeter of shed left on his tail and it's all off in one piece!!! I'm ecstatic! (He seems to be too!)

I think I'm going to switch from Aspen to Coconut Fiber... Any opinions?

Sorry I use newspaper as substrate so Im no help there but, congratulations on the complete shed!!:D

Yea I gave up on the cypress mulch after I little dude started dragging his dinner through it and almost ate a huge chunk of it. I switched to Scott Shop Towels and I keep sphagnum moss in the corner to help with over-all humidity + sheds.

Yeah, the local herp place recommended Bed A Beast because it's pretty similar to natural environment.
I would use something different (IE Newspaper if I wasn't allergic :()
Does anyone use this bed-a-beast and really like it? Or Eco-Earth?

I have used both and find that Aspen works better for me. The coco fiber would dry out too quickly and with 30+ snakes to care for it is just easier to have everyone on newspaper or aspen.

If you have more than one snake to do, or if you want a LOT of the fiber to last a long time, get it at a nursery store instead of the pet store. I picked up a HUGE bale of coco fiber (coir) for around $20.

How long does everyone here wait after a shed to start handling again?

I wait a couple of days...usually I can tell by his mood when he's really done with the shed funk and ready for normal activity.

No need to wait after a shed for handling. In fact, you mentioned a bit of shed left at the end of his tail. If that is completely encircling his tail, its usually recommended to try to get it off.

Yea My little guy is just as sweet right after a shed (well Im surprised he didn't hate me last time with that stuck shed he had) but unless he is hungry...hes a sweety pie!:)
