Day two: Missed it, but you didnt miss much

    Day Three:

A Little bigger, still pink. 11 pinks, she ate one im guessing because her food bowl was empty, i hope this isnt going to make her eat the rest!

Day four:10 pinks(although i think i missed one) See how some are a little darker, I'm guessing within the next day or two they will all have gained their color. Ive also been experimenting with this mouse, i have not given her a normal water bottle, she has been drinking out of a bowl( changed daily) I thought she would have culled off more but i guess i was wrong:banana:

Very interesting. I'm going to do that with rats when one of mine has a litter. I love seeing progression pictures. I'm going to do the progression of a holdback if I choose one from the first litter.

Jay- Can wait to see the rats, im doing this to see how much they grow and a good time period to see when you should expect hair/ color/ eyes open.

Day five: I think there are 9, a few are hiding under the pile so it might still be ten. I think i can tell that one or two will be albino, seeing that some are even darker yet. I'm pretty sure that she will not eat any more of them.

    http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...e/IMGP2528.jpg

Here is the mom BTW. I know you guys will hate me when this post is through but I'm going to feed off the mom. She is not a very good mother( when baby's get out of the nest she does not put them back, that is my main concern. Sometimes i think she will but I'll come back later and see a cold pinky outside of the nest)

Re: Mice: Day one to Thirty
Shes not, she might have ate the other three because i had to touch them to move them back into the nest because she wouldn't. Now she will move them herself and forget to move them back:rolleyes:

Thanks for all the support guys, this really makes me want to keep moving forward with this project. I think it will be a wonderful thread to sticky or something when i am through with making the slide show in a month.

And even brighter news, i caught my male breeding!!!:banana::taz::taz::taz::taz: This is after i fed off my really pretty orange male for being gay and went and bought a male albino, i just want to say if you do not get baby's from your colony after a month or two, change out your male. I was watching all my mice for about ten minutes and noticed he looked interested in my big black and white girl, and next thing i know he is griped around her( he is alot smaller, without breaking any rules with me describing things,it looked like a cowboy on a huge mad bull) Yay! More baby's soon!

Its another reason she is going to be fed off, i think shes been eating one a day:rolleyes: If she eats them all i'll wait untill my next litter comes, get all the pictures, and go ahead and make the slide show so you guys will not have to wait any.

Day Seven 1/2: Almost missed today, i was very busy this afternoon so getting pictures has been a challenge. The pinks are much darker, no more were eaten( But she did move a few before took the picture, so some are alive but missing from the pic) i'll have fuzzys soon! See how much darker they are from yesterday? They are also starting to form slits in the eyes.

That's why I hate breeding mice - I had one pregnant female give birth to 11, and I ended up with 3. Rats are sooo much more forgiving and only cull off sick babies, not just babies for heck of it like mice do.

Re: Mice: Day one to Thirty
I've never had good luck with the PEW breeders. They've always been a little neurotic and would eat their babies. I got a line of brindles from SarahMB and they just truck along. Great producers and could care less if you manhandle their babies. I have kept back alot of their offspring so I can continue the line. Some of them look like the ASF rats as they are brindle and white. Really cute and very easy going.

Maybe try going to a mom and pop shop or feed store and finding a good line of mice? Don't know if you have that kind of thing around there.

Thats where i got her, she had her babys a day after i got her so she was under stress. My other moms have been great.

A lot have to do with the way they are house, security is really a must with mice.

Dark tubs are better than glass tank or clear tubs it allows them to have more privacy reducing the stress level.

Good diet is also very important.

Often it also gets better with second generation has they are less skittish than the one from the pet store.

When mine give birth to 17 babies 3 weeks later I still have 17 babies, I rarely lose any and when I do they don't even eat them they bury them just like my rat do (go figure I must have weird mice)

The ones i have now that were raised by me are small adults are really nice, the only skittish one is a male I'm keeping for breeding:rolleyes: I have 8 breeding so in three weeks i should have 80 or so pinky's. I can spare a few pinkys here and there:D

Day 12: They love to crawl around, and when you pick them up they will react and try to not get picked up( kinda hard when you cannot see, which will change soon)
They feet are also a little more pronounced.

The momma's a Black Tan, not a Berk. Mice don't have a color called Berkshire like rats do. Since she's got orange on her belly (or at least that's what it looks like in the pic), she's a Tan. If her belly's entirely white, then she's called a Fox.

I think I'm going to stop this post right here, pretty much all that is going to happen over the next 15 days is they will slowly get a little bigger, nothing fancy, and i think people are mainly interested in the pinky- weaner stage anyways:taz:

I'm actually curious about how long it takes for them to become "feeder-sized" for an adult BP :D Auryn's decided that live are all he wants...and PetCo's mice are pretty puny. I've been buying them 3 weeks in advance (keeping 6 at a time), and feeding them up to a bigger size. I'm thinking this summer I might start breeding...but depending on how long it takes for them to grow, it might not be a great idea (I only have one BP!). It's pretty awesome how they just sprouted hair over night!

Your welcome! Unless you see them in person and how they are progressing in movement, the pictures would pretty much be the same. I'm glad i did this, now i can keep tract on how long until my new pinks will get hair.

I think were around day 20-25 and they are already sexually matured( Males have all of their niblets)

About food, two months ago i had 20 something baby's to raise, and had them on a pet store diet. This threads batch were on a dog food diet. They have grown three times as fast on the dog food then the pet store diet, and i have not had any die offs. It sort of surprised me by how big they got so soon!

Im working on the slide show as well today

I can tell you why the ones on dog food grew faster: Because they were getting actual nutrition!

Pet store foods, with the exception of Mazuri and possibly one other, are CRAP. They are mostly fillers and seeds, which are things rodents do not need. Once I switched my rodents over to Becky's mix with a few adjustments for mice, they all are doing splendidly!

Re: Mice: Day one to Thirty
Today I fed off the last one of these. I had kept one back for breeding because of her size, and later she had a litter, ate it, which I knew was normal for her first litter. Around comes the second litter two days ago, this time she eats most of them and abandons the rest:mad: So yesterday she was made into Lessers first prekilled mouse!
