I didn't know there was such a thing. He's really an eye catcher! Turtles are so cute at that stage. :P What kind of a set-up will you have for him as an adult? Just curious.

He will end up in at least an 80 gallon tank. Probably when he is ready to move up to the next size tank I will put him in his final tank. The bigger the better, right? He's only in a 10 gallon now, will probably be good there for the next six months or so maybe.
You can get albino or pastels for morphs in RES. I really love the carapace colors and design. My GF is totally in love with him.

He needs bigger than a ten, for every inch on his shell you need ten gallons. so right now i would say at the very least a 20-40 gallon tank. It is also hard to get temps right and to get a good amount of uvb over the tank without over crowding the top of his tank. there are a few more res morphs, like the caramel albino and the super pastel, and a few more i cannot think of. VERY nice pastel, i wish i could handle a turtle right now or id have a few!

Yeah, I have a buddy with a 30 gallon tank laying around that I will probably be moving him into very soon. He has plenty of room to swim at the moment and a retreat above water on each side of the tank. I'm using a Zilla combo dome with heat and a mercury vapor bulb toward one side for basking and the temps are good. I've heard that due to the extra width in tank that they do well for a long while in a 40 gallon breeder.

That thing is freakishly adorable! I had a little box turtle (not so adorable...) that I saved off the side of the road. He/she was injured and I nursed it back to health for about 18 months before releasing it. I know you're not supposed to move them from their habitat, but when the creek runs through your backyard I think that's a little different. Plus I checked with our family vet (we had tons of animals) and he said it would be fine to help and that it was not illegal. It lived in a kitty pool :)

Im pretty sure that there is also a super pastel RES. There are all kinds of morphs pattycake, not as many as balls, but there is some.

I think you are fine with a 10 gal. tank for now. Too big of a tank will overwhelm him. As long as he has a place to haul out and bask with UVB, you will be fine for a while.

I disagree 100%, a ten gallon is fine for a one inch long turtle. To small of a tank can and will stress out your turtle.

More morphs- Mainly older whiter ones, it is off season for eggs to be hatching so most morphs are still in eggs.

What a cute little guy! I want one! Seriously!
I think I seen a pastel RES in a turtle book, but I cannot remember the book at all. I may have it laying around the house.

Thanks for posting the pics, now I am going to have to track down and find me a turtle :grabbed: been a long time since I had a turtle :)

Wow that guy is sooo cute. What are their temps/ husbandry. I see large RES in ponds here and they seem to be real healthy. I have a friend who found one(alive) in a muddy drainage area in an avacado orchard? Some one must have released it.

Re: New Pastel Red Ear Slider......possible DUW
Temps are pretty easy. Juvies are kept around 78-80 and older ones a couple of degrees lower. If you keep it too cool they may stop eating, but I think it has to get down to the 60's for a bit for that to happen. He is on a pellet diet right now. It's hard to tell how much he is eating because they just kind of nip at the floating sticks. They will eat more veggies later on. I give him a dry spot above water on each side of the tank so he has a choice of temps as one side has a basking light and uvb. Thanks for all of the comments about him....everyone in this house loves him to death:)
