    Just got a madison piercing
I just got back from the tattoo shop not too long ago. I just got my dream piercing - I've been wanting it for ages.

The process was not fun because the piercer was using a new type of surface bar, which bent as it went in. He fished it out of my neck and had to re-pierce it. He then used a different type of bar that wouldn't go through. When it finally did, it made a lovely sucking/popping noise. The piercers were so worried I was going to faint on them but I only had mild dizziness when I stood up. Ten minutes later I was back to normal and walked out of the shop. Here's the finished product:

    http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...iercing006.jpg

I was told there was about a 20% chance of rejection, but my body has always handled piercings and tattoos exceptionally well so I'm not too concerned about it. Plus, it's in there deep. I can feel it sitting very solidly - if that makes any sense.

My roommate went with me and had his eyebrow done and had his ear pierced. He felt fine immediately after so he took care of me while I was woozy. Now that we're home and he's had time to think about it, HE'S feeling woozy. So we're taking care of each other.

thats insane!! you certainly are much more brave than i... is it just under the skin?? it seems like there would be high risk doing a piercing there.

Re: Just got a madison piercing
It's in there deep enough that I can't easily yank it out, but it *is* a surface piercing so it's basically just under the skin.

The only reactions I've gotten so far are: "That's disgusting" and "that must've hurt like a :cens0r:ing :cens0r:". I'M in love with it, though. :P

Re: Just got a madison piercing
In case you're wondering, this: is what the bar looks like when it's not in the skin. http://www.steelskin.com/productims/...surfacebar.jpg

But I explained that I didn't like the look of the flat heads and my piercer switched them out for me for free. :D

Most places will use something like this: http://www.steelskin.com/productims/...surfacebar.jpg
But they've found that when the bar goes straight in, then straight across, then straight back out again (like the above one which I have) there's less chance of rejection. The curve on the second one apparently is difficult for the body to accept. So that's another reason that I'm feeling good about mine.

Actually, that's exactly what my boyfriend said to me. He basically told me I "wasn't pretty anymore". But I know that's just the initial shock. Some people like them and some people don't. I completely understand why you would say that because there are some piercings I feel the same way about. But this was just something I wanted, and since *I* like it, that's all that I'm worried about. :gj:

Unfortunately though individuality in this country is usually prejudged. Most people especially in any type of business atmostphere (where I plan to spend my career) will look at you and never take the time to understand you. I personally dont like this type of thing but I can certainly understand why the previous person said what he said because of just that. Good luck with the piercing hopefully you can keep it clean etc...

My point being each person has their own opinion especially if the original poster puts herself out there for people to judge her from this one picture especially on a snake forum.

I like it. It is amazingly not red or irritated looking at all considering you just had it done! I really like the ones that you can get at the nape of the neck too. I don't like all of the piercings that are embedded in the skin like that (I know there is a name for them, but I forget what it is) but that looks pretty cool. Mostly I don't like it when they don't put them deep enough and you can see the bar through the skin--that just messes up the look.

mlededee - I also dislike when you can see the bar through the skin, and I'm thankful that mine came out the way it did.

KJlegend - I wasn't looking to be judged, just thought that the people on here would appreciate this kind of thing whereas most people in my "real world" do not. Also, as far as the job thing goes, I am completely aware of that, and feel that this piercing can be hidden easily enough, or otherwise disguised so that I will still be able to find a decent job. I have refrained from piercing my face for this exact reason.

To everyone else, thanks for the comments and kind words. :)

To the OP, That's pretty cool. Nothing i would consider getting, but it does look kind of cool. I had a girl friend with a nape piercing.

We can't judge someone else for how they choose to represent themselves. I'm loaded with tattoos, and I get looks all the time, but I say to my self "Ha, keep looking, only makes me want more!"

    LOL nice. I love that.

Bender29 - my body handles pain well. It was only red for an hour or so then it went away. And yes, it hurt but I didn't even flinch. The piercer was more concerned than I was.

Ooo boy. Not for me but I've always thought they were interesting piercings. A woman came into the store the other day and had something like that only on the back of her neck, she had a row of six. Very interesting but I couldn't help but think of the princess and the pea :D

Woo. Well I think it looks pretty cool. I'm such a wimp when it comes to piercings, I don't even have my ears pierced...and yet I have 4 tattoos. Go figure. Evidently in my brain someone drilling into me with a needle for 1 hour+ is not as bad as one quick jab.

One piercing I do like but would probably be too chicken to get is the corset type piercings...I vote you get one of those next, so I can live vicariously through you! :gj:

Oh and I feel you on the boyfriend thing...my hubby doesn't really like my tats (they aren't "girly enough") and he hates the one I have on my bicep because it's "manly." My body, my art, my choice...I had em when you married me, so you knew what you were getting, buddy! :)

Everyone at work today was just, in shock. No one knew what to say and people started talking to my neck. LOL They couldn't even hide the fact that they were staring. I started covering it with my hand and made it look like I was just rubbing my jaw or ears or whatever while they were talking to me. I didn't want to gross anyone out, even though it's not red, puffy, or otherwise disgusting. People just don't know how to react to it. My boss was the only one who thought it was cool. Go figure.

No I assumed you most likely looked into and thoght of every aspect of how this would affect your way of life, with work and how people look at you and treat you before getting this done. I was not trying to attack you in any way what so ever so I apoligize if I sounded harsh. My whole point was to defend the person who initially commented on it, because they werent trying to be rude-at least from my point of view- but they were just stating an opinion and thats all it is, is an opinion which only matter so much. But again I will apologize if you took it personal at all because that is not the type of person I am.

After the initial crusting over period I ended up stretching one hole (I like to pick at things...) But it's finally healing back now. Should be completely clean within a month.

Pat - I don't want to put anything on my face because of several reasons. As for the breastplate thing, I've never really been a fan of that. When I was having this done, there was a girl getting an anchor put in there. I didn't like hers at all. It came out so small you could barely see it. What's the point?
