Aspen
I'm using Aspen in little Furio's tank and he didn't have any mites today but I'm starting to realize when I go back to work I'm not gonna be here all day to monitor the humidity so I was wondering what I should switch too. I know alot of you say newspaper but I'm allergic to alot of paper products such as Newspaper and Paper Towel so it kinda screws me over there...
I was thinking...
Bed a beast or something but I dunno about using something wet wit h a UTH... I dunno... give me some opinions. I think I'm gonna change it next time I feed him... misting 42 times a day is running through lots of bottled water...

Re: Aspen
im assuming you have him in a tank if your humidity is that low that often. have you tried covering up the screen any to keep the humidty in? or are you using a CHE. those leech humidty. if you're going to be away for long periods of time than i'd strongly suggest just switching him to a tub. Humidty is not an issue at all if you use a tub. if you're adament about keeping your tank. there is a sticky or a thread here somehwere that explains a really good way to set it up to keep the humidty in.
aspen is supposed to be pretty good with humidty from waht i hear. so is reptibark.

Re: Aspen
I thougth that the respi-bark held humidity better than the aspen in my situation. Either way, I still have to keep an eye on it and mist often.

Re: Aspen
You think Cypress would hold humidity better?
I know this bed a beast stuff is highly recommended but like I said I don't know if it's good to put damp bedding down over a UTH.

Re: Aspen
Anyone got any info on this?

Re: Aspen
Place a towel on the top of the screen lid. It will help hold the humidity in. When I used tanks, this solved all of my humidity problems. You can leave a open space to allow some air flow.

Re: Aspen
I have never had a problem with Aspen holding humidity, but I also do a slight mist every few days. Not sure if it helps that much, but it doesn't hurt.
I bought a 300' roll of cage liner paper. It's about the thickness of 12 pieces of newspaper, and soft. Made of recycled paper/cardboard.

Re: Aspen
Siran wrap! I use cypress mulch, I dont dampen it that much though. I have damp towels under some plexiglass boxes I made. I spray once or twice a day or just soak the towels good if I am not going to be home for longer than 12 hours.

Re: Aspen
Is your UTH(under-tank heater for a reason) INSIDE the tank? I seriously hope not..
