Finally, an agouti!
Last night I peeked in on my albino girl's litter and pulled out 3 agouti chubs! Only three out of 13, the rest were either black or albino or himalayan (heavy on the albino). I will definitely be holding back one of the berkshire agouti females. This is pretty exciting for me since I am over run with those beige and blacks and himalayans.
Also, I was able to keep a beautiful siamese berkshire a few weeks ago. I'm hoping I can breed her to a self boy and get rid of the white modifiers in the lines. I'm trying for a lot of selfs in my colony. I like to see the whole body with color, it's just nicer to see a gorgeous full body color amongst all of the hoodeds and berkshires. :)

Re: Finally, an agouti!
So, you've got all those nice color mutations and you're excited about getting normal wild type rats? To each their own I guess.

Re: Finally, an agouti!
I personally really like agoutis and have held back several from my own colony. But that's just me! :)

Re: Finally, an agouti!
I suppose it seems that way, but I really wanted agouti's because I really like the depth and color. I really like them. I got tired of black and beige and albino rats. :P
Plus, I would love to get all the combinations possible with agouti's. Fawns, ambers, cinnamons, blue agouti's... there's quite a bit to be done with those "normal" rats too. ;)

Re: Finally, an agouti!
Ok! Here's the little chubs weighing in at 25, 27, 29 grams and a day shy of their 2 week birthday. The female is the hooded, and the 2 berks are males. :)

LOL, I sorta want to keep all of them too. :P

Re: Finally, an agouti!
Oh very nice agouti's! I have a number of them in our colony and I do love the variety of colors and patterns they'll throw when combined with other rats. I've yet to see one of our agouti's have any genetic faults either and the two agouti/white females I have are two of my most prolific breeders. I think they are a good rat to have in the breeding pool of any colony.

Thanks Jo, I'm stupidly stoked about getting them. :)

:gj: I like agoutis, you should promote one to the status of future breeder :D

Re: Finally, an agouti!
Agoutis are one of my fav colors! Prob because Norrington, my fav of all our rats, is one. They are really pretty.

Re: Finally, an agouti!
This is like my mouse litters, out of all of them they threw one albino, and it already is in my top five mice:D

Re: Finally, an agouti!
gosh it's weird to see someone all excited about agoutis - i feel like my colony is overrun by them. I have two agouti dumbo barebacks, and one top ear agouti bareback, and they throw me more agoutis all the time. In fact, my next generation of breeders is up and coming and i think there are like 4 agouti berkshires in it.

Re: Finally, an agouti!
I can relate :) A dew weeks ago I posted some agoutis that I bred. I saw them as unique too in my colony of hoodeds, black/flue berks, etc. So I hear ya sister!
