Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
OK so every time I take my little boy bp out and hold him close to the upper half of my body, he makes his way toward my nose! (I breath out of my nose more than my mouth) He will stretch right out close to my face until he is literally licking my nose!
Do you think he might be hungry and bite it or is just checking it out because its warm? Hes very very docile and I don't handle him around feeding time. I know this is a weird question:)
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
Probably not likely...but as a general rule I don't trust a snake near my face until I know them really, really well. My friend got bitten in the face by his 7 foot red tail and the next day he looked like he got punched in the eye. Obviously a baby ball wouldn't be able to do the same kind of damage, but still. If you don't feel secure with him near your face then just gently steer him away. He's most likely just checking things out but better safe than sorry.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
It's really not a good idea to get nose-to-nose with any animal. Lots of different creatures take things lots of different ways.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
You need to see their body language, if they are in a S striking pose you dont want to stick them in your face.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
All of the ones here like to periscope up to faces, and crawl in hair and over glasses. It really depends on the animal. :)
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
hes never in a strike position when he does it, I usually dont let him do it for long but its crazy to watch him just sit in my hands and do whatever he can to get up toward my face.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
mine does that any time I hold him. He slithers about my shoulders and eventually ends up slithering up my face and entwining himself into my hair and/or glasses.. he's already bent two pair (thank god they are the cheap over the counter reading ones :D ). He also likes to rub against my mouth or nose, which of course I steer him away from gently. But it is funny to watch.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
Would there be any concern about somanila(sp?) because the snake is 'licking' your face? Sorry if this is a stupid comment!
The only animal I get face to face with is my golden and only because I trust her 110%. I don't think you can establish that same level of trust with a snake as you can a dog. Some might disagree but that is just my opinion.
I won't get face to face with my other dogs either....rather it be because of bad breath or because the one gets cranky when she isn't feeling good.

Heck, I share my ice cream with my dog till he licks his but  (I'd say I was kidding if I didn't share ice cream with my dog)
they like the warmth......but anyway....it's usually just curiosity and wont bite unless they feel threatened...
and don't smoke...they'll strike without warning....:O...learned that the hard way!
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
Its cold out side his home, he is probably just trying to reach the warmest spot he can find in the area... your head :)
But yeah, its generaly a good idea to keep them away from your face and head, just in case
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
Any animal can and will bite - it's up to you to decide the level of risk you want to take. Me personally? I don't want or need them near my face. :)
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
It's kinda funny because I always steer mine away from my face (especially my BCI). She is a sweetheart, but I tend to trust pythons more for some reason. A couple of weeks ago I was at a friend's place with his retics out and I let one of them come face to face with me (at 13ft) and he flicked against my cheek and then went about his business. His retics are so amazingly tame that I took the chance and it was a pretty cool feeling. Will I do it again? probably not.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
LOL, thanx everyone. I don't think Ill make a habit out of letting him do that but it is amusing. I wanted to get a picture of him licking my nose but that would probobly cause a lot of "dont complain when you get tagged" comments:) He is such a sweet little guy but Ill try and keep him away from my face :)
As for my dog, I dont mind getting close to her face when Im petting her enthusiastically behind the ears but no licking ewy LOL. (4 yr old pit bull, also a sweetheart)
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
BTW, they're not licking you - they are flicking you with their tongue to "taste" you.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
We do that as an alternative to kissing our snakes. But we only do it with the ball, the kenyan sand boa, and the rosy boa (all very docile). When we put their nose to ours, we say, "Kiss, kiss," and let them smell our nose. Sometimes the tongue touches the tip of our nose, but not always. We only joke about doing this with our jungle carpet python b/c he is still nippy and jumpy.
I'd say #1 thing is like someone else said, watch the body language. If they are coming to you, it might be safer than you bringing them to your nose.
Get someone to take a picture. It might be fun to see.

Yep! I know, it just is easier to type "lick" then "flicking me with his tongue." but thanx for the tip nonetheless:).

I do too...no idea why, though. Come to think of it I've only been bitten by one boa (and a mexican rosy at that...I was having a retarded moment and stuck my hand in the cage about 30 seconds after he'd eaten, so entirely my fault) but baby balls/burmese/retics have all tagged me.
I guess I'm just weird.
Re: Do You Think He'll Bite My Nose?
My RTB comes right towards my face everytime I take him out to get a taste. I dont mind em doing it bc theyre associating the smell/taste of your face/skin with a non preditorial threat. My balls dont really seem to do it as much as my RTB but I usually give em a couple tongue flicks then slowly move them away. I havent been bitten in the face and I'd like to keep it that way.
