    Best Starter Morph
So I'm curious to know, what do you guys think would be the best starter morph? I've got income tax coming in and I'm looking to start a very small breeding project, just to kind of get my feet wet if you know what I mean. Are there any morphs you can breed to a normal and get visuals from? I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg either just yet, I figure I will try out one breeding and see whether I can handle it or not, before I go crazy buying snakes and get in over my head. So any ideas?

You can breed Pastels,Spiders,Mojos are all good starter morps to breed to norms and get 50% morps in return:gj:

Nifty, so that'd be 50% visuals, 25% hets, 25% Normals?

Drat! I'm always forgetting that. But then, how did they get them in the first place?

Golly I have a lot to learn.

Wild caught animals from Africa that looked different and were subsequently bred to normals to "prove them out" to be a genetic morph.

I'd go with a female pastel cause they can be gotten for relatively small amounts of money. I would also add to that a spider or mojave male; again, both can be had for a relative pittance! ;)

I'm seriously leaning towards a Mojo...I'd love to produce a BEL down the line. Although I like Spiders too...maybe I'll get one of each. It's so hard to pick!

All of those are dom or co-dom. If you were to get one male that ended up breeding later, you could breed to multiple normal females for some beautiful snakes! Also, depends on how low cost you really wanted to go, but pastel would always be the cheapest. Good luck!

I'm interested in learning more about the science behind morphing. Is there a good source online that explains in detail the genetics behind breeding snakes. I haven't really studied the punnet square since high school.

    My .02

Get a pastel and 3 or 4 normal females to breed him too, possibly see if anyone would enter into a breeding contract with one of your females and just go from there.

    What I'm doing.

pastel male -> breed to 2 normal females

2 other normals in a breeding contract with a mojo and lesser.

and 2 more normal females that I jsut picked up - still in QT (will be ready to breed to my lesser and mojo from breeding contract.)

Also have 100% het Orange ghost male & female

    66% het pied male

I'm starting with Cinnamons, yellowbellies and maybe a granite. I want super cinnamons, ivory, and yellowbelly/granites. I know i'll have to work a pastel or super pastel in there somewhere:)
