Ferrets and Lizards- Compatible???

Was going thru my head about my next couple of years and my plans for new critters and so forth.

I plan on acquiring a Ferret eventually, as well as a Tegu.

Now, here is my question.

If I do have them both out, do you see it as being a problem???

Ferrets are weasels, and lizards are a food source (infrequently, but yes), but Tegus are wayy too big.

Any eniminity forseen???

Just a thought provoking issue that I may not actually have happen, but.... would be interesting if anyone has any thoughts or experiences.

Ferrets are carnivorous so a lizard might be a treat to him. I would just monitor them very closely. Someday I'd like to get some ferrets.

Heather as long as you don't let them run around loose together you should be O.K.. The ferret may be a threat to your tegu when he is young but once full grown I would be more worried for the safety of the ferret than the tegu. :rofl:

I wonder how ferret sandwich taste :confused: :rolleyes:.I think if you watch them closely you would have no problems

Yea watch them closely and there shouldn't be a problem. I know that when I have my little fuzzbutt out, as long as I'm there to watch her, she doesn't get into much.

I've already named the Tegu I don't even have. His name will be Bowser, or if its a She, KT for Koopa Troopa. (Lame, I know...) :D

Just a warning, ferrets love to get into things, and one might find a way to open your reptiles cages;)

I wouldn't get them out together. I found a website that said ferrets will hunt and kill basically anything other than dogs and cats. If the animal is bigger than they are (a large bunny for example) they will just harrass it until it dies....Also, my room-mate's rack has plugs in front of the tubs so that the snakes can't push the tubs open. The very first day that my lil girl ferret saw the rack, she ran over and pulled out all of the plugs. So be prepared...but the ferrets are WAY worth it...and of course any new herp is exciting!

I looked all over for that site and couldn't find it, I'll post it if I find it.

Tegus get bigger than most small dogs, so I think I'm safe ;)

But Ferrets.. yeah... I love mischief, so its okay.
