I have two different size hides. He used to hang out in the smaller one up until about 2-3 weeks ago and has now switched to the bigger one (warmer side)

Has he become too big for the smaller hide?

They don't really look too small. But in my experience those things don't hold humidity for jack. I would reccomend these hides, and if you look around enough online you can find them on most reptile accessorie websites.

    That's just my 2cents

reptiletubs.com is a good one but you have to call to place an order. I have not had any bad problems with them.

I use the same ones as Tmartin and love them, every snake gets at least one. I do however have the same problem with the hides becoming more like shells in the sense they sit on top of the snake instead of the snake fitting in them (much like the picture from tmartin)

I'd rather buy something from a local store :\ Should I just wait a bit longer for him to get bigger and switch to tubs instead?

I use the black hides also and my snakes rather enjoy pretending to be little hermit crabs in them. I was able to find these hides in a local shop although it took some searching; they're all I use now.

You dont HAVE to switch to tubs. Heck get a cheap tupperware container and cut a whole in the side (watch for sharp edges), and you have the same thing at a fraction of the price.

Just take a lighter and melt the sharp edges.

For my large boa, at one point I had a cat litter pan for a hide. It was cheap and easy to clean. Once the boa outgrew the cage, I moved him into a boaphile 421 (I think) its 2x4x1 I think. No hides, though I could shove one in if I wish, but it would probably get crushed LOL

I use the bottom 6" of a couple office-sized wastebaskets with a door cut in them. They fit an adult bp (~ 4') like a glove.

My BP is capable of fully curling up in his small black plastic hides, however he also 'slips out' of them now and then. It does not seem to bother him.

I'd say your hides are fine for now! :D

I go to the dollar store and get plastic bowls. Tortilla warmers work great for humid hides;). For 99cents I got alot of extras:cool:

oh man i love dollar stores, as many fake plants as i can cover a tank in for a buck each(i use them on the outside to make the tank less open and a little darker without having to shove them right in the tank) If you can find a pair of plastic bowls, cut a hole in each and you have identical, cheap, effective hides:)

Oh yeah, having two identical hides is important, too. That way, the snake will choose based on his heat requirement, not comfort.
