    How So!!!
My red tail is so much more fun to hold and watch rather than my ball. My Ball is a lot more moody. I just think it's funny how the snakes seem to have switched personalities.

My boa is much more enjoyable to have out as well. Much more curious and energetic.

I would describe holding my ball python as a pleasant and relaxing experience...my boa, on the other hand, is "a handful". :D

I would generally agree with the happy, mellow place you can go to while holding balls..though I have one who is a handful!! I can't wait to get my boa.... darn cold nights!!

I understand that snakes have different personalities and I am cool with that. I love them both. The Ball is still a sweetheart but the Boa is beginning to make a great impression on people who come over.

I love the personality of BP... She is the sweetest cuddliest snake I have ever dealt with. She LOVES human contact... and never wants to be put back in her cage... she will hug your arm and climb back up to your neck. I can lay down on the bed... and put her on my chest... and she will just make herself comfy and take a nap on me. Most others I have dealt with will try to explore their way away from you if you set them down. Almost everyday within 5 mins of me being home from work she will be out of her hide and all over the front of the glass begging to come out.

I never thought I would feel so much love from a snake!

Well tonight I am adopting a 4 foot male Red Tail... This will be my first Red Tail... I can't wait to get him home, I am anxious to see how the personalities compare.

QT QT QT QT QT QT!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if you know all about the previous husbandry of the boa.....QT!!! And remember to take strict measures when you go from your ball to your boa....in that order!!!!! IBD and other illnesses are real and happen and are heartbreakingly sad. My boa will get only 3 months of QT and that is because she is coming from an excellent breeder. If I were to take a rescue, I would QT for 6 months.

When you say QT for 6 months... Do you mean leave it alone and not handle it for a 6 month period??? They will both have their own Tanks of course... And I am borderline OCD when it comes to keeping their setups clean... and Washing up before and after handling each animal. If 6 months of alone time is what he needs to keep him healthy then that is what he will have. And another question... Why from BP to Boa in that order... Shouldn't it be just a strict in the opposite order? Thanks so much for the advice... These are the things that only experienced handlers tell you... and knowledgeable input from a fellow experienced herper is priceless!

You know your ball is healthy and you don't know anything about the boa; that is why I would go from the ball to the boa. 6 month QT means that I would keep the boa in a different room from the ball. Of course you would feed it, water it, interact with it; but you would be careful to do that in a separate room from the ball and after you have had your ball time <tee hee!>
Behind all of this precaution for me is the threat of IBD, which can lie dormant in boas for at least 6 months, and can wipe out your entire boid collection. This is just what I would do and other members will hopefully chime in!! I hope this helps, McKinsey

I Got my Boa!!! His name is Ziggy And He is Awesome!!! Thanks for the advice... I will follow that for sure. He is out in the living room... and my ball kicks it in the bedroom. Holy cow talk about a difference in handling the two.... He is about a little over twice the length of my ball and probably weighs 4 times more. He is Breath Taking!!! I will post another thread once I get pics to introduce you to him. His colors are Brighter and more vibrant than most Red Tails I have seen. I don't know but I'm thinking he may be some sort of morph.

Oh yeah I am going to give him a while to settle in before I take him out and let him hang with us. The car ride I'm sure was pretty stressfull for him. I handled him a while before I took him home and he is so awesome. He's got the coolest little personality!
