Breeding Difficulties
I have a male spider ball python and i'm trying to get him to breed with my normal female ball python but he's not showing any signs of interest in her. What can I do to get them to breed?

Re: Breeding Difficulties

Re: Breeding Difficulties
I have them in a 30 gallon tank, the temperatures are 80 in the hotspot and 75 in the cool side and they have 2 hide boxes and a water bowl, and the bedding is cypress mulch. And they are in weight for breeding.

Re: Breeding Difficulties
What weight are they? "Good enough" doesn't help us.

Re: Breeding Difficulties
The male weighs 865 grams and the female weighs 1325 grams. oh and the temperatures are low because I dropped them for breeding. I usually have them in 91 hot spot and around 83, 85 cool spot.

Re: Breeding Difficulties
Breeding isnt a sure fire thing. Sometimes they get down and dirty, sometimes they do not. Its hard to tell you, "what" will make them breed. Chances are nothing that you are going to do is going to get them TO breed. Give em time.
How long are you leaving him in there? How many times have you tried? How much of a rest are you giving him? He may be stressed out.

Re: Breeding Difficulties
Well I had him in with the girl for about a week but I took him out cuz I had to feed him and the female is shedding so he's not in the same tank with her right now.

Re: Breeding Difficulties

Thank you for the actual weight. Both are still on the low end weight wise, which could mean they just aren't sexually mature yet. How old are each of them?

As of now 260 grams, about where you start right?;) In all seriousness I've seen people recommend 600 as a good grammage for males. 800 grams isn't overly large for a male.

Plus watchout with the fatboys sometimes they won't hang.

Re: Breeding Difficulties
No my male isn't a fat boy. But I don't know what to do. A friend of mine said to put some ball python shed in their cage. And I did, it's from one of my other males. But it didn't do the trick.:(

Re: Breeding Difficulties
Your female has alot to do with it and at that size she may or may not this year. But putting them together can get the wheels rolling. You have to have alot of patience with these animals, there gonna do it on there time not yours. Be patient.

Re: Breeding Difficulties
I quess im gonna wait until next season. Oh and I was reading a book in the library a couple of days ago and I read that ball pythons can breed at random times. Is that true?
