Why is he out?
I have to give my little dude injections every other night so ive been trying to minimize stress by keeping the tank covered and not handling him except for injections. he had some mouth rot when I first got him but hes looking great. Anyway i figured he would probably refuse dinner with how stressed he could be but as soon as i stuck a F/T fuzzy in there he went right for it. Anyway, after he ate instead of going to hide over his UTH he went exploring, maybe hunting for more food? And he spent all night curled up on his vine near the top of his tank. His temps are fine, why might he be staying there?

Re: Why is he out?
I would try giving him another F/T fuzzy it sounds like he is on the prowl for food! Our 240 gram male slammed 2 live fuzzies last night and our 300 gram female slammed a F/T lg mouse on Sunday and followed it up with one live and one fresh kill fuzzy last night. (she eats anything!) When they really go on the prowl in the tank we generally will feed them earlier than the schedule. Also our male normal who was 464 grams after a shed on February 6th slammed down 3 lg mice on monday and pooped today then went on the scale for a wieght of 589 grams today! Still has alot of mouse in him probably!

Unlike boas bps won't overeat when they have enough.
What did they give you for his mouth root?

Re: Why is he out?
i dont remeber the name of the meds unfortunetly, there in a sterile bottle with a rubber top so i can fill the needles, not the original bottle with the name on it. His mouth looks 100 times better and hes almost all cleared up.

Re: Why is he out?
yay, he did eat another fuzzy, now hopefully he'll go to his hide and relax, hes been sitting in his vine all night looking for more food, poor hungry little guy.

Yea, my Pastel het albino (RA) killed a third hopper last night, but laid on him for an hour then crawled back into his hide. We pulled the dead hopper out and threw him away. (I wonder if that was why the cats were so interested in the garbage this morning?)
Generally we are trying to get all our Ball Pythons on the same feeding schedule, every 5 days, so things are a little out of wack until we get them there. When we do feed them we give until they stop. Then they will wait 5 more days unless we see one really going on the prowl for more than an hour or so. We are trying to get our bumble bee (Hathor) up to wait for breeding in 2009. We hope we can do the same with the Albino female we are getting once the weather warms up a little, but can't say for sure as we don't know what we have to truely work with until she gets here. If RA keeps going the way he is, he may get a chance to try and woo the 1800+ gram Female we bought from Heathers Herps! :please:

Re: Why is he out?
I wish I had the collection, money and knowledge to breed, but i would never want to sell or give them away so it would be mildly pointless:)

Re: Why is he out?
If you selectively breed you could play around with it in a limited amount of space. The cost of some of the equipment you need is what will kill you. You need to be able to nite cycle temps which require a minumim of a Helix DBS-1000. Then you can choose to let mama naturally incubate the eggs or you will have to buy an incubator and good ones that give you better than a 50% success rate are expensive. (We are at a toss with the big apple and Natures Spirits units.) Then you have to keep a close eye on them and learn how to spot signs. (Still trying to figure all this out.) My wife and I are setting up and making plans to do it and so far we are over 2 Grand in just basic equipment. (This doesn't include snakes.) We still need to build a rack for the hatchlings! Also since we are not breeding our own mice yet we are spending $50.00 or more on feeder food! By the time our BumbleBee is ready to breed her morph will be old news and not worth as much as we paid for her so we will probably see some loss in that department as well initially. Once you get all your set up costs together figure about 2 years of breeding before you even cut even and that does not even include the year or two you spend raising the hatchlings you bought with the intent to breed or your personal time! Oh yea I almost forgot if you make more than $3000.00 in a year selling snakes you have to get a small bussiness tax ID and pay taxes! :salute:  Government has to get their share. Not an undertaking for the faint at heart to think about a full time business with and it would be hard to get a business loan since it will be a while before you actually have product to sell! :( Then you can throw in the problem if you make a business name and don't get it registered and pay a small business registration fee someone can come along and steal your business name for their own. (exception to this is if it has part of your actual name in it.) In the long run I think the business could be very good, but I don't think it will ever make you a multi millioniar.
