Give me your opinion on my setup/Is it normal for BP to come out during the day?

Please give me thoughts on my setup, the temp. that is glared is 80.00 not 100.00 just in case you were wondering



Also is it normal for my BP to be out during the day? It was drinking water and moving around but I never seen him do that before

i personally would have two identical hides instead of two unmatching hides, but thats me.. also do you have any difficulty with that large bowl of water or is your humidity alright/stable all the time?

your temps/humidity look good IMO, the warm side could be maybe a smidge higher but thats all in personal preferance. we keep ours about low of 88-high of 91 (warm side temp) variation lately between shelves in the rack system we use. my spider ball is very active all the time while the other five are lazy butts.. so it could be yours wants to be out and looking around. is it close to feeding day yet? he could be hunting around. thermoregulating is normal too, you just simply cought him movign around his tank going from cool to warm side. could be anumber of things. as long as your temps stay where they are and hes not due to eat then i say hes fine, just exploring. two of our shelves use those exoterra temp probes, i like em' and i have two of the other exoterra ones that do time, temp, humidity, all in one.

He seems not to mine, during day hes in one and when I wake up hes in another, seems like he's getting use to it, but thanks for the opinions... humidity is so tough to get right its frustrating lol

hey im right there with you!!! for some reason my rack system is SUCKING out my humidity, im resorting to misting the bins every other day and keeping the water bowl on the warm side!! its very frustrating lol... ;) good job for getting other peoples POV. i know this is one of the only places i use as a resource theres always somethign to be learned about these guys!

I just tried feeding, he ate it RIGHT away, wow im surprised

i would cover up the sides and back of your fish tank with black construction paper or something.

I think your set up looks pretty good. There are a few nitpicky things that could be argued for or against, but if your snake isn't stressed and continues to eat regularly for you, then all is well. BP's are primarily nocturnal and I'm sure you will see him roaming a lot more often when it is dark, but it is not totally uncommon for one to come out every now and then during the daytime. Much props to you for getting all of those digital temperature and humidity instruments! :)

As in my PM to you, I think his prey is a bit small.. it should be about the same size as the widest point in your snakes body. I like to see a bit of a bulge after they eat

I think you need to up his prey size there. A pup would do well, trust me these guys stretch! I have my girl about the same size as yours in a 12 qt tub, she gets fed every 5 days a rat pup, and she is packing on the size. ;)

Dude, that fuzzy is too small. I'm feeding adult mice to my bp (the last 2 were 30 grams) and he is about the size as yours. Just make sure the mouse isn't bigger than thickest part of your bp's body. Should be slightly smaller.

Correct if Im wrong but in the picture does the warmer thermo not say 100F? This is higher than 91, so I would say it does NOT need to be higher...

Just FWIW, I (as well as quite a few other keepers) keep their snakes at higher temps on the warm side. Mine are kept at 94-94.5 on the hotside, and regularly use the hotspot. They are all still eating wonderfully(even an 02 proven breeder hypo male who normally goes off-feed now).

So! Up to 95 is fine, if you provide a cool area for them.

It looks that way but its not that, just from the glare that the digital display gets all fuzzy

I keep mine at 80-84 cool side and 90-94 on the hot side... so strikes me that both your hot and cool sides are a bit jacked.

Same with that log hide, I would lose it and provide two identitcal hides. They are hard to clean and do not provide great security. He will use it as he needs to thermoregulate, but he shouldn't have to pick b/w security and heat.

Just my two cents.

He's lookin pretty good dude. I would also suggest to bump up his prey size. If you are feeding him f/t from the store you work at he can handle the adult mice. They are small for adults, so it should be fine. Good job will all of the digital instruments too.

I tried one of those and he didn't take it, but then I tried the size down right after and he took that, but I have fed him about 3 times so far and he eat everytime, next week I am going to try the bigger size.

Regarding those chemicals; I would warn everybody about using Frebreeze around snakes! Last year my son sprayed that same stuff (in the photo at the top of this thread) around his room which housed a Corn snake, and the next morning the Corn was dead. :tears:

Chemicals like those deodorant sprays will eventually get into the cage, and possible the water. You may have the cage closed off in your opinion, but why take the chance on what damage these chemicals may do to your BP?

It's bad enough worrying about what these chemicals might be doing to us! :O
