    First ovulation... I think lol
    Hey there,
This season is my first season breeding ball pythons. After breeding leopard geckos for the past several years, this season I wanted to try something new. Tonight when I was doing the snake rounds, I found this girl all swollen up. I've never seen an ovulation "live" before, only in pics. To me this looks like all the pics of ovulations I've ever seen. She stopped eating in early December, she then weighed about 2800 grams. Once my male Fire came out of quarantine I started pairing them up. He's been with her 3 times since December, and all 3 times good long locks were witnessed. This just caught me off guard as I wasn't expecting any ovulations until I starting raising the temps back up. Sorry about my ramblings lol, here's the pictures.

Should she be more swollen at the place where you see the first dorsal spot after the tail?

Beautiful female anyway, and a good chance she's at least building nicely!

Thanks Jas, I'll keep you posted. Is it possible for a girl of 2800 grams to only lay 5 eggs? Last year I received a gravid female that weighed 2900 grams and she gave me 9 eggs.
    Thanks,

    Thanks,

It is always possible for a larger girl to only give you less eggs than you expect. More eggs too, if you're lucky.

After checking on her tonight, I noticed the swelling has gone further down her body. Just like Rogue said, the swelling is at about the first dorsal spot now. Maybe she was just starting to ovulate when I took those pics last night?
    Thanks again!

Thanks alot Justin! Hopefully I get a few Fire babies this season. Last night I caught my Bumblebee doing the old belly up trick. She was bred to my Fire as well. I hope something cool comes out of that.

Larry, this darn girl has been off feed for the last month and a half. Not much crap to clean in her cage. Just the odd urate which she has in her cage in those pics. I just happened to crop them out lol. Keep up th great work on Reptile Radio with BT. People love listening to you guys, even up here in the Great White North.
    Take care,
