    Help. New Ball very weak
just got a new ball from the local pet shop today and it seems very weak. What's more I found 2 ticks on it when I got it home. The ball is well over a foot long but is incapable of keeping a firm hold on my arm like my other snakes can.

Right now I'm thinking of going to the pet store tomorrow and giving them back the snake and demanding a refund. Is there anything else that you can suggest that might be able to help.

I would take the animal back to the store, and purchase from a better breeder. The poor animal is likely anemic and probably carrying other parasites as well. If you really want to you can take the animal to a vet, and see what you can do for the little guy but that would be up to you.

Also I would consider purchasing Provent a Mite and treating your cage with it, whether or not you keep the animal. It's possible you now have eggs that can infect any new animal you bring into the house. Here's a great link on it.... http://www.pro-products.com/miteandtemp.html

you can check the state laws on animal cruelty. i know this is the fedral law.To fail to provide an animal with:

    Proper food and water
Shelter or protection from the weather
Veterinary attention to reduce or end suffering from disease or injury
    A sanitary environment
    To willfully abandon an animal
To carry or cause an animal to be carried in or on a vehicle in a manner that endangers the animal including transport of an improperly secured animal

To willfully permit an animal to be subjected to unnecessary torture, suffering or cruelty

To Subject, Cause or Procure an animal:

    To be tortured or tormented
To be cruelly killed, beaten or mutilated
To fail to notify the owner or police after striking a dog or cat with a motor vehicle

To use animals as lure or bail in a cruel or inhuman manner

To transport an animal in the back of a motor vehicle unless animal is properly restrained

In November, 2004, animal cruelty, as defined in Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 272, Section 77, became a felony. Until November 17th, animal cruelty had been considered a misdemeanor. Now, violations of this law may result in a sentence of up to 5 years in state prison, or up to 2.5 years in a county jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

Also remember that by 'rescueing' these animals by purchasing them, you enable that store to bring more animals into those conditions.

Well here's the latest. I took ball to the vet and they checked it out and I could tell that she felt bad even charging me for this. She gave him a vitamin B shot and told me to keep him warm and showed me a good way to try to feed it liquids through a dropper. I'd been doing this all day until it died on me tonight. I'm planning on talking to the humane society and the owner of the store on monday and we'll see about some other places. I'm going to do what I can to make sure this place is at least shut down for a little bit while they're being investigated for neglect and who knows what other types of animal cruelty

Many people use egg yolk....it's mostly used to lubricate during a force fed rodent

Personally I have never had to force feed and would not try...but I have read that in many cases it has been used very sucessfully :)

    Lighten up!

If the snake had ticks, and was too weak to hold on, in the short time he had the snake in his possession, he probably wasn't the root cause of death.

Sooooooooo sorry to hear that your new pet died!! :(

There are quite a few threads here about feeding a liquid diet to a very weak snake. And quite a few of them are now very robust, thriving pets. It needed nutrition, and being too weak to hunt, even assist-feeding probably would have been too much stress on the poor creature.

Unfortunately, the snake was too far downhill to recover. Kudos to him for taking it to the vet and TRYING to get it into recovery.

Personally? I'd be taking the snake, the vet bill/diagnosis BACK to the store and asking for (first, and if that doesn't work...demanding) a refund and reimbursement for the vet bill.

Good luck!!! Pls keep us posted on what you decide to do, and how things turn out.

Please try to be civil. That person came here for help, not you be judged by a one man jury.
If the snake had ticks, it was more than likely wild caught and had other health issues which would have contributed to it's demise....certainly not a little egg yolk. :)

I've actually seen this recommended in veterinary manuals, so your statement is a bit harsh.

I've often force fed liquids or liquids mixed with meat baby foods to a snake that was dehydrated and not able to eat on it's own.

I'm sorry to hear about the bp. It sounds to me like it was doomed from the start. Were they selling it as captive bred? Ticks would indicate WC. I'm sure that there are more than enough great breeders right here on this forum that you could get a quality bp from.

CBB can have ticks hell even the allmighty Adams bps can get ticks. So its kind of dumb to say his was wc.

Ticks are usually found from WC animals. hell i don't even think i have ever been bitten by a tick. plus usually snakes in big pet stores are bought at wholesale. wholesale snakes are 9 times outta 10 imported. buy a snake for pennies on the dollar turn around and up the cost to like 70 or 80, and unload garbage on the general public.

Wolves-n-dogs: You have slammed Adam two times in two posts during this thread. You need to know that Adam is a trusted breeder in this business and a respected person in his own right and on this forum. His only priority (after his children and Kelly) is the health and well-being of his snakes. To that end, he has learned year after year after year after year how to best care for them and understand them as a species. Your attitude regarding him and your statements against his character are way out of line. Picking on Jas is one thing- he is here and has posted and can ably defend himself against your snide comments. However, Adam hasn't even posted to this thread and so has no way of knowing that his character is being slammed. I feel as though you have insulted this entire forum with your remarks and that an apology is due to Adam. Just sayin......

If you believe this and all the other insults you've thrown around, and you repeatedly can't treat the other members here with respect, then why are you a member here? It seems as though any post you are in you are negetively contributing, insulting posters and being generally unhelpful.

Lorken999, I'm truly sorry for the ordeal you've been through. I know you've already been to the vet once, but perhaps an autopsy could let you know what happened and put your mind at ease. Also, if anything is found it could be used in your report against the pet store.

I've noticed quite a trend with Wolves being overly harsh and critical of other members who are just coming here for help. I feel that he owes plenty of folks here an apology but i'm sure we'll never see that. I feel that this forum would be much better off without trolls like that just looking for an argument.
