Perspex/plexiglass
Just a quick question .Has anybody ever built a perspex/plexiglass vivarium?Just finished mine, it measures 3feet long × 2feet wide × 1foot high.It should in theory be just as easy to heat as a tub right?

Re: Perspex/plexiglass
It should actually be a bit easier, as plexiglas is going to be thicker than most tubs, thereby providing better insulation.
If I might ask, where did you get the plexiglas? I've been considering doing something similar.

If you don't feel like putting plexi glass everywhere you can just lay it over the screen of your tank, it works well... sometimes I have too much humidity ha

Re: Perspex/plexiglass
I built my own enclosures. I ended up building a 4 unit enclosure with each unit being 33" long 15" deep and 11" tall. I will have to see if I can get pictures. For the most part I used the laminated type wood that the cheap house furniture is made of and cheap kitchen cabinets. I built each door on the front out of 1/4" Plexiglass that I got from Lowes. Each door is 24 inches wide by 10" tall. It actually looks pretty good for an amature job and I learned a lot so in a couple of years when I decide to built my next one I will know a little more. Like a four unit one is too big and heavy!

Re: Perspex/plexiglass
We have made two tops for the couple of aquariums we're still using. Both take the place of the screen tops that were on the aquarium. They are much easier to use, more secure and look so much nicer.
I'd love to see pictures of the tank you built. That's my next project.
We got our Plexiglass at Tap Plastics. Great people to deal with, if you happen to have one of the stores in your city. Otherwise, just look around for a shop that makes stuff out of it and I bet they can cut you pieces.

Nice setup g'hound. I have posted a few pics of the unfinished viv in my gallery. Just need to drill vents, paint some sides, then air it for a week to vent the fumes. Im hoping to get the royal fella in within 2weeks. Cant wait!

Thank you! It can fit 6 of those tubs along the top for young ones later on.
I'm thinking my next project is going to be a coffee table type set up. Limited room right now is going to make me get a little creative in multi functional type deals. Plexi-glass top so we can use it to watch couplings. We need one more enclosure anyway as my wife and I want to get a normal female that is old enough and big enough to breed so we can breed it with Apophis this year and get some practice dealing with everything not that the first time we do it we screw up and loose a big clutch of designer morphs. After that I will be looking at either buying or building an incubator. Might have to drag out the arc welder for that one! Did I mention I like power tools? :taz:

Awesome man, I always wanted to have sort of a bed room surrounded by a fish tank, or lets say you inside a fish tank with a hallway back outside or something... hard to explain but would be awesome.. until it cracks :bubbles:
