Can't decide... Albino or Lesser?

Good morning :)

I would like to breed my spider male to a female in a couple of years, but I cannot decide which female morph to get. I do not want to spend more than $1500 on a single animal.

The options are:
1) Female Albino... in the first year I could produce spiders het albino, and then by breeding those back to the mother I could get spider albinos (link) in about 4 years, which are beautiful animals.

2) Female Lesser Platinum... this lady combined with the spider would produce lesser spiders, a beautiful snake IMO (link), and by breeding back to the mother I'd have a shot at blue eyed lucys in 4 years.

I just can't decide... I like the look of an albino a bit better than a lesser, and the simple recessive morphs usually hold up their price tag longer. However, producing an albino spider takes twice the time of a lesser spider, and I simply love lucys, and there is no way I'd have a shot at these with the albino of course.

So, what would you do, or do you have other suggestions?

Hi Markus, I think you chose when you said that you like the look of an albino a bit better! It's important to really love what you're looking at or the hobby can become boring really quickly! Albino spiders ROCK!!!! :banana:

I'm not saying what you should do, but if I were in your shoes I would go with some big normal females. And then breed your spider and a lesser male to them to get some nice lesser and spider females to raise up and some males to sell so you can buy that albino female.

Right on...the ball python is just such a gorgeous animal with so many differences in that beautiful undulating pattern and natural colors...=)

Personally, I'd go with the lesser, but you should go with the color and animal that makes your heart go pitter-patter the most! =)

IMO out of the two I would go with the Albino.

But also nice combo would be a Orange ghost.

I mean the combos to go into the spider are endless and some have not been done yet.

The question you have to ask yourself is what do you want. What projcts are you looking to build.

You can not go wrong with albino. IMO

lesser all the way, they make wonderful combos and make them faster too. The Lesserbee is so awesome!


Albinos, i love them to death, but their combos are not that nice, it takes away the color and makes most ball pythons morphs look like normal albinos( with the execption of some pattern morphs)

lessers are bla in my opinion and albinos are my fav morph. sooo with that said, ide go with the albino.

For close to, or a little more, you should be able to get both morphs.

I just got my lesser at a show for $900 and have seen albinos recently for $7-900.

So if you can get a lesser for say $800 and a albino for $800 = 1600

So I say go to a show and see if you cant get BOTH :gj:

I think lessers are stunning. i personally would get a lesser before an albino (besides lesser bees are BEAUTIFUL) but as everyone else has said, do what YOU like best

He's in Germany if my memory serves me correctly. Prices in Europe are just a "wee" bit higher than that! :P

I have both and I'll tell you this you have more combo possibilies with the lesser. And at the end of the day get what you like most.

In any situation in which I HAD to decide between a codom and a simple recessive, I'd choose the recessive every time. Especially if I already had a codom or two....

Go with the albino...IMO it sounds like you like the albino spider more(obv bc you said you do)...I take this to mean you will still want them, even after you get a lesser, so you'll prob end up with both eventually....That said...the albino spider will take longer as you said...so get started on it...you can always grab a lesser male in a year or so and add him to the mix and in a year from when you get him(and thats if he's a baby) you'll be ready to make lesserbees, or very close to. Gotta get going on those recessives asap, esp if you have the bug for them. :salute:

everyone says it, get what you like best. get the lesser the albinos have held there value for a while and you can always go back. thats what i would do because of the crazy morphs that still have left to be seen with the lesser. :D

Yes, I live in Germany... and a 'bit higher' is certainly an understatement. A 07 lesser female has the same price as an 07 female albino, which is 1400 Euros. Now, with the euro being so strong compared to the dollar, it results in $2050 per snake :tears:

Unfortunately, shipping from the US is no option, because it would be shipping cost + taxes + customs, which is about $1400 per snake :(

I'll visit a reptile show tomorrow, and have €2200 to spend... maybe I am lucky and get a good deal!

albinos are classic! anybody getting into ball pythons must have an albino. why wou ask? cuz i said so!

i would go the albino spider direction but thats me. theyre both beautiful morphs but in the end obviously its up to you!

by the time you make your decision you may even start thinking about a different morph...

I would go with Lesser, but check out everything..because 4 years is a long time to devote to one, make sure your getting the absolute one you want.
