Next step: Incubator help
Alright, I've seen my girl laying on her side and just the other day flat on her back, so I'm going forward with the incubator preparation. I've heard the hovabators are bad for ball eggs, but I've also heard it's okay if you hook them up with a different thermostat, is that true? I'm not much of a craftsman and I don't plan on breeding again until my younger ball comes of age, so I don't want to put a lot of money into it quite yet.
Any incubator opinions would be helpful. Thanks.
Re: Next step: Incubator help
You can make them cheap pretty much flexwatt a Helix and somthing to hold the heat in erm like a old fridge or a cooler..
Re: Next step: Incubator help
Yes, building one is plan B.
Where can you buy flexwatt?
Re: Next step: Incubator help
http://www.reptilebasics.com for flexwatt and you might need a computer fan for a fridge or cooler I'm not 100% sure on that :) good luck
Re: Next step: Incubator help
Also- look into maternal breeding for a natural incubation, some people dissagree with it but so far everyone ive talked to has had a 100% hatch rate with it.

Re: Next step: Incubator help
The only reason why peole dont let the females incubate the eggs themselves is they cannot eat while wrapping eggs.
the eggs take a lot out of them, and most people like to be able to offer them food to get their weight back up.
Re: Next step: Incubator help
Check this site out. I built one, and it holds temps great. My old freezer is huge, but you could use a smaller one also. Hope this helps...

If they are breeding the correct size females it will not be a problem, and my friend only does maternal and his take small meals every once and a while. For every foot on your female breeder you should have 500 grams, so if you are breeding a 1500 gram female, its only three feet long? They can do it, if not, we wouldnt have ball pythons.

Well, I think I'm going to go the building route (with a cooler). I like the idea of natural incubation, but Theta has already been off food for two months now, and I rather she didn't have to go another two.
Hopefully, all my orders will come through before she lays.
Oh, I just went to a garden nursey today in search of some vermiculate and perlite, and didn't find any. Do I have to order that stuff over the internet too, or should I just keep looking around for it?
