New Member of the Family!!! (DUW!!!!)

Guess who followed me home this weeked???

I've been researching, studying, and absorbing as much information as I can for several months now...before making this commitment. And once my husband and the whole family were entirely on board, it was finally time to begin the search for just the right puppy for our family.

Just as I was beginning to despair of finding the right dog within the right time window (lots of different factors coming into play in our lives right now)...this past Thursday night, all of a sudden all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place at once.

There's no doubt in my mind that God was in control the whole time and had this very puppy picked out for us.

She's a red dobmerman (female...just in case someone didn't pick up the pronouns), AKC registered. Her dam and granddam are both Search & Rescue and Human Remains Recovery dogs.

She's nine weeks old. Was the only pup available in her litter...in fact, the entire litter was already spoken for and paid for as soon as they were born, including this little angel...but the woman who had put the deposit down on this one came into some financial issues and could not follow through...so she became available.

The breeder lives in the D/FW area, where all my family are, which made the trip (about a 300 mile drive each way) to go visit and see the puppy very joyful for all.

And there were many other little pieces of this puzzle falling into place that are of little interest to anyone outside our own family...suffice it to say that it was a perfect fit all the way around for many, many different reasons. And the cherry on the top of the sundae.....the breeder had used a "theme" to give all the puppies in the litter their temporary names until they went to permanent homes....the theme was Snakes! :snake: :8: :banana:

She doesn't have a permanent name yet. Her temporary name was Timber...which is really neat...but doesn't seem to fit. "Angel" is my first choice for her right now...it automatically leaps to my tongue every time I look at her and interact with her. But the rest of the family think its a sappy name. I'm open to suggestions from those who are clever at coming up with unique, meaningful names. :D

congratz, they make wonderfull pets my friends in college had one for years and it was an amazing animal.

Thanks guys! She's already a great little dog! She's very puppy-ish, of course....but eager to please and seems to be trying hard to figure out what we want from her. She doesn't know how to tell us she needs to go outside to potty, but she'll readily go in the grass, so long as I stay on top of it and take her out when she needs to. And she'll cry for just a few minutes when put in her crate...then settles down and goes to sleep, and can sleep through the night just fine.

For some reason I think Dobie ears can go either way with me. I love them both natural and cropped.

We were looking at boxers for a long time but the ears just have to be natural on those guys!

Congrats, Judy!! She's a beautiful girl! If your kids don't like the name "Angel", how about a name that means Angel? I popped it into babynames.com (I like it because you can search by meaning of names) and came up with the following for girl names with the meaning "Angel":

- Mariangely (American)
- Melangell (Welsh "dear Angel")

Dobbies are one of my faves when it comes to dog breeds, what a cutie!! Azure has some fantastic name suggestions there, an Angel name seems fitting. :) There's also listings of the names of specific angels too!

And enjoy the "puppie" in her as well as her breath! cause it doesnt stay forever, but it does get better as age goes on! PS.....get her some tenis balls!:D Are you going to breed her? I love Sienna, what a nice regal sort of name for her when she's the grown up beauty that adult Dobies are. I also love Faith, as it fits so well with how she came to you. That's a lovely name too.

She is precious! Reds and traditional blacks are my favorites. She looks like a doll and sounds like you made an excellent decision on who to get her from. Working parents are a great sign of her quality and temperament. :gj: Have tons of fun with her (like you needed to be told that!) :banana:

Thanks, Kim! I'll check into babynames.com and see if anything else jumps out. I really like the thoughts behind "Destiny" and "Faith" too. But, like Angel, the English versions of those words fell like a stone at my daughter's feet. Not that her opinion is the final say...but I'd at least like something that's not going to make a close family member cringe whenever they hear it. LOL

Already had her vet visit yesterday. He said she looks to be at a perfect weight and perfectly healthy. Fecal tests all came back negative. She charmed the entire staff!

And no...absolutely no plans to breed her. She'll be spayed as soon as it's healthy to do so. As for sports...it's kind of hard to imagine right now because she's such a feisty little baby...but I would really like to see what Obedience competitions are like...and perhaps give a go at Agility as well.

One of my hopes for her is that she'll be an ambassador for her breed and help teach people that the reputation they gained in the 70's as viscious dogs is just as outdated and ridiculous as the clothes they wore back then. :P

She's doing really well. Keeping us all on our toes, for sure. But she's super-sweet and seems to be trying really hard to figure out what it is we want from her. Must be really confusing to go from rough-housing with her litter mates to wanting to play with little people who don't understand the joy of mouthing and play-bites. LOL

She's got the sweetest little natural "sit" that I've ever seen in a puppy. It may actually be tricky teaching her to sit on command because whenever she wants something, she automatically sits very pretty and looks up at you with those big soulful eyes. :aww:

Anyhow....I've only got a minute today...super-crazy busy. But I wanted to peek in and let y'all know she finally has a name! :carrot:

Her name is Miracle, and Mira for short. :love: Still have to come up with her fancy registration name, but that doesn't feel as urgent as getting her a "real" name. The first time I called her Mira, her ears perked up and her eyes got bright as if she really liked it. :D

Gotta dash....too much to do with too little time! Will catch up wtih everyone as soon as I can! I hate being too busy to visit with my good folks here!!

Agility and Obediance are great! I love agility, ad if it wasn't for the time right know, I would do it! Congrats again judy! And glad the vet results came back negative.:D
