I've only had two females give birth so far and with both I noticed a pattern. First, they will get huge. Then they will stay in their nest almost all the time. Even when I nudge them out of their nest, they return within a few seconds of being out of the nest. They will get even bigger and then pop! You have babies. As soon as she starts favoring her nest be on baby watch.

You just described what happened with the nest! Its not what would call a nest though, she just sorta dug a hole in her bedding in a corner and now shes lieing there, i pushed her into her hide and she went right back to it.

Then she is definatly close is she will follow the same pattern mine do. If she returns to her nest right after leaving then she should deliver within the next 24-48 hours. Both of my females did not even get up for food or water during that 24-48 hour period that I saw.

She will most likely be having them today. Try not to disturb her too much. You will hear squeeks when they are born. It sounds like little birds. (or it dose for rats)

Nothing... she is HUGE though, i'll either get aot of babys, or a little less of big healthy ones soon. If she keeps this up she and my other golfball will have their litters at the same time.

If she is huge then she is really close. They will look like they are ready to pop and then you'll leave the room, come back and poof! You have babies. I actually caught my first female in the act of giving birth. Very awsome to see but I left her alone. Expect little pink jellybeans soon.

Re: When do i know my female is ready to have her litter?
If she's built a giant nest and she looks like she's going to explode, chances are you will have babies today, tonight, or early tomorrow. I know they only stay really huge for the last day or two. My albino female was huge for two days, built giant nest and poof! 5 Babies. My brown female was really huge for one day, built a small nest and dropped 12 babies.

Re: When do i know my female is ready to have her litter?
Well she looks big enough to pop but she might work on the nest a bit more. I know that the nests my females made were really tight and I had to dig through it to find babies. Give her some toilet paper to use to make the nest. If you give her that, you might see a bigger nest soon.

Re: When do i know my female is ready to have her litter?
I've noticed mice like to share nests. My albino female was alone when she had her litter but my brown female had the help of her albino male. He helped build the nest and stayed with the babies when it was time for the female to get food and water and just take a break from the babies.

Still nothing! Now im expecting BOTH to have their litters anytime now, the light grey one is now BIGGER than my brown one:taz: If i have nothing tomorrow morning you are going to here me rant... and i'll start a " should i cut?" thread... i'll get those little suckers out myself!

    :8:

Be patient. I waited a few days for my albino girl to drop babies and on top of the wait, she only gave me five. When they get to the point that they won't leave the nest for anything, then you will have babies.

Re: When do i know my female is ready to have her litter?
It will happen when shes ready. You should really leave her alone though. the more you disturb her the more shes holding out. she wont have those babies if she doesnt think its safe. i put toilet paper in my mice cage too to give them extra bedding for their nest. i also put a dark color shirt over the side with their nest. On top of that I seperated my females too but thats just me, im sure when i have more mice ill leave them together.

Re: When do i know my female is ready to have her litter?
Try not to bother them so much with the hide lifting and so forth. Females will try to hold back birthing if they are fearful or can abandon/destroy their litter if they are bugged too much, especially with their first litter. Mice are particularily antsy that way. Just relax, provide food and water and let nature take it's course. :)

Ive got babys! the one we have all been talking about STILL has not had anything, although there was three pinks on her side of the nest so she might just be haveing some now:O Im sorta expecting her to eat them.... she just was put into a compleatly new tank with new everything, so she might be a little stressed, but so far so good.

But any ways, 11 nice plump babys from her! Im so happy! The other was even bigger so i should get a little more!
