Re: Everyone Help Me !
are they brown? It may be some sort of belly rot. what is your humidity?
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
I can't offer any advice because I don't have a clue but....
Somebody had just posted some pics of what they thought was scale rot. If you have not seen them, you might want to check them out to see if it's anything like what you are seeing on your bp. Here is the link to it http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=59936
Is that darkened area indented (I think it was the first part you pointed out) or does it just look like that? When you first showed it I gasped because it looks like it's a sunken in area and a large one at that.
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
Humidity may be an issue, but the hard brown belly scales are indicative of something else. I would take her to a vet. Could be an internal issue.
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
not brown like their scales but more of a dark orange. list a rust or bronze color. humidity before this was around 80%-90% because she was going through a shed. i took her out of her tank, placed her into a smaller tub with paper towel & her water bowl with alil bit of water. i have put neosporin twice 2day and will repeat tomorrow.
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
That would be a bonafide vet trip, pronto. Looks like belly burn from the vids, but could also be bacterial, etc. The fact that it is in more than one spot on her lower abdomen is worrisome and suggests bad burn. Stop using the UTH until you get the problem fixed. Keep her on clean paper towels and use neosporin only if the blisters are not deeper than the skin layer. It's a $40 exam at my vet, surely worth the peace of mind.
Good luck with it.
Cheers,
Kat

Re: Everyone Help Me !
TanyaL,
thanks on the link. its at a worser case than that. i seen that before on my female pastel when i 1st got her in april07 but after she shedded, i havent seen it again. i know when i touch it, it sinks in. the 1st part i was showing, is where there are bubble blisters, some have popped when i pick her up n inside the tub.

Re: Everyone Help Me !
Definitely take that snake to a vet asap....there are alot of very experienced herpers here but only a vet who can physically see and handle your snake can tell you what it is and how to treat it
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
I would take it to the vet. It looks like scale rot. If I remember right its a fungus. If you soak him/her in iodine and water it will kill the fungus. Thats what the Vet told me to do along time ago when I rescued a Ball Python from a nasty pet store. She had scale rot really bad. But if I was you I would still take it to the vet.
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
Do you mind me asking how long it too to get to that point? If this is indeed scale/belly rot, I think it would be informative to know how long it takes to develop and get to that point.
I hope you can get her to a vet ASAP and that all will be ok. Please keep us posted.

Re: Everyone Help Me !
Hi,
Just wanted to add my 2c and say I would take her to the vet as well.
It definately looks like either scale rot or an infected burn in the video but you can't diagnose an animal over the net with any certainty.
I would double check all your heating elements for hot spots or failures and , as you have already done, put her an a nice sterile tank on newspaper or paper towels you can examine and change often. It's a very large area to try and treat yourself and I think the vet would be the only realistic option till it is a little better controled. :(
Hope she turns out ok.

Re: Everyone Help Me !
What type of heat do you have on her? Heat pad , heat lamp?
-
Re: Everyone Help Me !
How are you controlling your heat pad, and what are you using to measure the temps?
And what is your humidity when she's not in shed? Is it always kept at 80-90%?
I will echo the others, you really need to get her seen by a vet and get treatment. In the meantime, I'd switch her to newspaper and keep it dry. A water bowl on the warm side or in the middle should offer her enough humidity. I use newspaper and my humidity stays 50% at all times, I don't bump during a shed and I have perfect sheds.
Is her enclosure a tub?

Re: Everyone Help Me !
Everyone,
i wanna say a BIG BIG thank you for taking the time to post your comments, advice and the help for me and my snake.i have done the neosporin twice a day, keep her in a dry tub with paper towel. the blisters have popped, but the coloration is still there. tomorrow i will be giving her a peroxide/water bath and then give her alil neosporin. i am going to wait until her next shed to take her to the vet if the problem reoccurs . i kno you all must be say WTF ! but like everyone has their own method, im seeing what works. i will keep everyone posted on how she is doing and again, i THANK YOU all.

Re: Everyone Help Me !
Without getting in to the question of what you should or should not be doing, I'm just going to suggest you check out this thread before you do the peroxide bath.

Re: Everyone Help Me !
tks took BIG note of that... scratch that off my list for tomorrow ! tks again.

Re: Everyone Help Me !
I would still encourage you to seek veterinary care for your snake - unlike a puppy or a kitten, it can't let you know that it's in pain by whining, or following you around. Waiting to see what works is not fair to the animal's suffering, IMHO.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't you say that this has happened before, that this is not the first time you've had this problem with it? If it is as severe as you say it is, how do you know that more damage is not being done by not having it treated? The neosporin might be just masking the problems and not actually healing it. IMO, it looks really bad and I would have already had it to the vet by now. The third time is NOT the charm, in this case. Please, get the snake to a vet, for the snake's sake.

My bp does not have blisters and everything else that the bp in question has which I don't think you have to be experienced to know that the animal needs medical attention.
If you read some of my first posts, you will see that my poor bp was fed one pinkie every two weeks when I got her back in December. Since then I have increased her prey size and frequency and she is steadily gaining weight. It was suggested to me that the reason why my bp is so small is probably because she was fed so little before I owned her. And, she will be taken to the vet just as soon as I can afford it, not because I think she is under weight but because I want to make sure that she is in good health, PERIOD!
Had we not just spent $2500 in the past few weeks on our dogs (one of which had to be put down because of cancer and the other has unknown problems), my bp would have already been to the vet! Unfotunately, I only get paid once a month so come Feb 13th, I'll be making an appointment! I'll be sure to let YOU know what the outcome was.
Noob or not, I still think that a vet check for this man's snake is needed!

Thank you for replying back! Maybe I shouldn't lose total respect for you, just yet! ;)

THANK YOU! It's been very difficult for my entire family but time will heal! As I'm sure you know, it's hard to lose a pet since they usually become part of the family and not just an animal that you house, feed and water (some hardly do that). I just hope that the other dog will be ok!

I did kinda take offense to the NOOB remark as I didn't think it was necessary.
Pat stated that he would take his snake to the vet if it happened again, not because he couldn't afford it right now. Granted he does not need to share his reasons as to why he is not taking it to the vet but it came across to me that the neosporin was working so that was good enough, or that maybe it was just a two time thing. Sorry, Pat, if I misunderstood you.
I take the health of my pets very seriously just as I do the help that I get from the members here on this board. I can't tell you how many hours and days I've spent on the internet (mainly on this forum) to try to learn as much as I can for the benefit of my snake. (Acutally, it's not even mine, it's my sons but I have to support him in caring for the snake because he is only 13. And honestly, I'm scared to death of snakes!) I can't tell you how bad I feel because my snake probably is underweight but I'm doing everything I can to change that. Had I known that she was underweight when I bought her, I don't know if I would have bought her in the first place, or I would have bought both of them just because I felt sorry for them.
Truce?

Re: Everyone Help Me !
I didn't see an answer to one of the questions...
What is your heat source, and how are you keeping track of the temperatures?

i will take her to the vet on my day off, that is tue or wed. its just i dont have the spare time like some people might, i work in the after noon n get home late. and the vet is a good distance away. but i will take her to make sure i give her best treatment for my snake. i dont want anyone to think of me as a bad person or im over here hurting my snake, just there are alot of reason i just couldnt at the moment. i felt with the dry tub and neosporin would help this 2nd time around. this is all a learning experience and i want to keep learning n hopefully get the opporunity to go to the next step, from hobby to breeder.
again everyone, BIG THANKS for ur time, advice & help.
