    vet questions
ok tomorrow i'm going to make an appointment with dr gold in maryland. this is lucys first appointment and i was wondering if there was a way to get tests done without fecal matter since she hasn't gone yet.

also, just for a checkup, what else should have the doc look at. thanks!

Great questions! I don't have an answer but since I'll be making an appointment for Foster in the coming weeks, I'm going to tag along for this one, if that's ok.

they can do blood tests but when i took my first snake in to the vet ask them to probe it so you know for sure if its a male or female and right after that my girl left a big nice poo on the table top. all over the vet and the assistant, i sat there and laughed. so maybe youll be as lucky as i was. vet got what he deserved after all snake poo on his clothes. that what he gets for sticking a probe up a snakes private parts. LMAO

HAHA. what other testing did you have done?

say if i were to ask for their jiffy lube signature service, what all would be included?

no problem and keep posted on how it goes and the first time my snake went to poo i watched paint peel off the walls it smelled so bad i guess that what happens when all you eat are mice and rats. lol

The vet that I'll be taking Foster too likes to do more than probably necessary. Is there any benefit to doing blood tests? I think another vet quoted less than $30 for a blood test (but I could be wrong since my memory stinks, not quite to where it will peel paint though).

After spending $2000+ on our two dogs in the past two weeks, $30 is chump change!

theres no real reason for a blood test its only to see if theres anything physically wrong like for ibd and viruses. i mean it is good to do for extra security purposes so you know 100% nothing is wrong with the snake but i didnt get one done i didnt find it nessicary

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind!

May I ask what your vet charges for different services (ballpark)? Our vet will take reptiles but because her fees are no different for a snake than for a dog, I'm wondering if she is a real herp vet or not. I'm just assuming that a herp vet would be more expensive than your general vet.
