Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
A few people have been hounding me about Grace, mostly Frankykeno(Jo), but others too. As promised, here are some updated pics of Grace, and I also includedsome of my other special children.
The first picture is of Grace's scar, or what's left of it. She just shed about a week ago, and it looks better and better after every shed. For those do not know about Grace's story, I have included a link to the original post; http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=53378 .
http://www.baileyreptiles.com/pics/gracefeb08.jpg
This is a picture of the rest of the special kids. I will do as much explaining as I can for this pic. On the left is our one eyed Pinstripe female (actually she has 2eyes, but her right eye is very small, see picture). In the middle are the twins. They are sibblings to Grace, and are named Bitsy at the top and Itsy on the bottom. They were hatchedweighing in at a whopping 23.0 and 21.4 grams respectively. They now weigh in at 52.1 and 46.6 grams. They do not grow fast, as I have been feeding them very small meals to keep from shockingthemtoo much. However, they do eat 24 hour old pinkrats on their own. On the right are Grace in the front, and one of her other sisters behind her. I included hersister, as I believe that she might be the best looking Spider I have hatched to date (her colors do not show correctly in this photo). Unfortunately she sold beforeIrealized how beautiful she was. She was in shed when we sold her. Grace's last weight, as of today, is 242.1 grams. She hatched at 40.7 grams. After her hernia healed, she began a chow hound, and is eating me out of house and home (wel at least the rat;s home). I hope you have enjoyed the pics.

Sincerely,

Thanks Melanie. I higly doubt I will ever breed Grace, as she will be going to a new home in a few months. I know that is the first I have ever mentioned that, but I won't say anymore. Other than she is going to a board member, so she will not be absent from BP.net in the future. The new owner may breed her, as we have talked about it, and from her current condition and her great progress, I don't think she would ever have any problems.

Thanks Jo. The Pin female is named Winky. She is the sweetest Ball we own, and a hog too. You would think she would be slightly jumpy because she can't see from that side, but I think her heat pits make up for her lack of sight just fine. She will strike in that direction, and I approach her from her bad side all the time, and she still appears to know I'm coming.

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Hey tim does that hapen to be my spider in that pic?
-
Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Awww what a great name, Winky, totally suits her!
I wish I could find the study, it's saved here on my mess of a favorites list Tim, but it basically compared what happened to pythons if they hunted with their heat pits blocked but sight intact, compared to heat pits available but sight temporarily impaired. A definite percentage managed just fine with no sight to guide them but most could not manage to hit prey with their heat pits out of order. I bet Winky knows just who you are and exactly where you are at all times, one good eye or not. :)

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Strong work Tim ... there are a lot of "business people" out there in this hobby that should be taking notes out of your play book. Animals first ... always!
Keep on keepin on brother!

Adam,
That is the very one that belongs to you. I think you will be very pleased with her when you finally get to open the box.

Thanks Bro. I only have you to thank for even giving methe thought and inspiration to give it a try. I also wish I could take credit for having a play book, but I find myself flying by the seat all too often. I can only hope that I have inspired one person to give that extra care to one snake, because of her story. If I can succeed in that chalenge, I will considered it a win.

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Outstanding kids! Grace's scar looks kinda just like a longer baby snake belly button...I'm excited to eventually hear "the rest of the story" about her future home. =)

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
It so nice to be able to follow Grace's progress.
Such an amazing story, you can be very proud of yourself Dr Tim ;)

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Grace looks great! I often wonder how she healed.
And the one eyed wow sexy! Im pretty partial to one eyed anything seeing as I have a kid with one eye, so they make an impression in my heart instantly!
-
Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
I think that, as a breeder, it is awesome that you care enough to keep your stock that did not end up being breeding material. Many would see them as a liability.. I admire you for keeping them and giving them the best life that they can have!
I am so glad that Grace is thriving. I read her story with trepidation and she is such a beautiful girl :)

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
The Grace story has been told to almost everybody i know. My mom, who just thinks I'm weird was blown away by the story. My grandmother, who still believes snakes are the devil, said and i quote " he saved that little ugly things life." she read the thread, so I'm thinking thats a compliment, but it's a lot better than what she used to say! My GF, who doesn't hate snakes, but isn't at all into them like me, of course loved the story! If you weren't married she would probably leave me for you. You know Tim's so sweet mess that i have to hear all the time!
I say all of this just to say, Amazing job! The true meaning of loving your animals, unconditionally! Your the man Tim! Once again, thanks for sharing!
:sweeet:

Tyree,
Thanks for those words. Rest assured, I'd send your GF back your way, as I am sure you would have done the same thing if the problem presented itself to you. I am glad that otherscan get a slight light out of the story even if they don't like snakes. This story is about saving an animal (the fact that it's a snake can be overlooked by most).

Thanks Robin. I have always hoped that everyone else had the samepassion. I don't think I am special, just someone that really has been bitten by the bug.

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Grace is looking good. I went back to read the first post and saw the pics and what you did. I think what you did for that snake is great! I hope she continues to do well. Please keep up with the updates on that little girl.

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
I do have one leopard gecko that one of her eye is smaller too.
Tim, I know one guy whose ball never eat anything bigger than live fussy. Is it possible to convert, if so then is there any trick? He said his ball just too afraid, and he tried f/t so many times without success.
PS: Grace story is one hell of a feel good story man. Right next to Kurt Warner's story imo :D j/k

Thanks Nick. I never understood how someone could not try to save a snake when possible. Don't get me wrong, I have put a snake in the freezer before, but, it was beyond help. (Severe deformities).

Thanks Ed. As for the Pinstripe's name, I can't take credit for that. I got that name from a buddy of mine that named a one eyed snake Winky. I just thought it was a cool name and adopted it myself.

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
Thanks sooooooo much for the update on Grace.
I've missed my BP.net fix for a while, but I'm glad that I'm getting the chance to read up on how she's healed. You've done such an AWESOME:gj::gj: job on her from the very start. Not every large breeder would devote the time and love necessary for the special needs snakes!
Winky is such a neat name, and glad to hear Itsy and Bitsy are thriving.
Best of everything to you and Monica!
RuLyn

Re: Grace and the rest of the Special Kids!
