keep pairing them till she ovulates or they wont lock again
Re: breeding after follicle development?
I like to make sure the females see a male at least once a month. When I start to feel follicles I tend to move those females up in the rotation so they're seeing males even more frequently all the way until ovulation.

When i was breeding i kept rotating the male until they showed no interests in one another ;).I used the 3 days with the female 3 days by himself(resting lol) method.

BREED BREED BREED!
:)
Don't stop pairing until there are ovulations, and even then, don't completely stop the pairings. Do it until there is no interest.

Re: breeding after follicle development?
I would keep going until she ovy's.. I'm actually experimenting with this this year. I put a male in with a female and noticed one of those 24 hr. locks.. I have not put another male with her since and she is Glowing like a candle!

John, can you clarify for my poor little brain? You're saying that you've only paired them one time as part of your experiment? What is the criteria for your experiment? To see if one 24 hour lock will result in a gravid female? Or am I off base and you're trying to find out something completely different?
Thanks!
Re: breeding after follicle development?
ok I put the male back in with her. checked on them about an hour later and they were locked up. thanks all of you for your input I was mistakenly thinking that follicle development = gravid.
Re: breeding after follicle development?
John I have seen more locks after bowl wrapping and follicals start than I did before..Best of luck.

Yes, Robin I'm just using that one breeding to see if I get eggs. If it works this time I'll try 4-5 girls next year. If that works Well then Everyone will not have to worry about stressing there males out so much!! One and Done.. I like it...
Re: breeding after follicle development?
So, when did you pair them? Meaning, were you feeling follicles a certain size, or do you ultra-sound?
I'll follow this with interest!

Robin, I keep to old wc females, They were gravid imports back in '03. I use them as My Clock so to speak. Once those two start acting weird, I intro My males! I dont palpate for follicles until I really think they are gravid. This just ads to another reason I watch My snakes.. Those 2 females tell me everything I need to know!

Re: breeding after follicle development?
Too bad that they don't make a preggers-test for snakes... A urate test..? :) Female snakes everywhere would be in the bathroom mulling over whether there was one stripe or two..
