This might be a stupid question but...
If you put you're male and female in and they lockup, after there done you take the male out, but then do you put him back in a few weeks later? Or is it one lockup?

Keep pairing them until you see her ovualte. You could get 10 lokcs over 4 months and never get eggs. A lock doesnt mean she is gravid so the more locks the better your chances.

And thats not a stupid Q. A stupid question is "If I wanted to breed my male python, do I need to get a female?":8:

    When they come out :)

You can also look for Ovulation, and you can also palpate, but those are skills that take a bit of time to perfect

The only sure way is when she lays them :)

If you keep an eye on your female, you'll see her when she ovulates. It will look like your snake just swallowed a huge rat (and you know you haven't fed her). This lasts for approximately 24 hrs. After this, you'll watch for her to shed, then start counting days to hopeful egg laying.

Hope its ok to post this here. Read over this link then read it again. Untill you know every word. Ok not everyone will do it this way. This is pretty much how I breed, But I dont follow it 100%. You will here on this forum alot, (Do what works for you). But before you do you need to know what (To Do). Then once you know the basics then you can go tweaking things to find out what works best for you. Anyways ran on a bit there. Here is the link

You said your male is only like 140 grams or so. To me that is way to small to even think of breeding. Some people on this forum have bred small males, but I dont think of any that small. I hope you just asking for info for later when they are big enough. That your not thinking about putting them together now.

Same huge female that is 600 grams and might be a male  http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=58598

My 2 cents you should try learning about the following first and foremost.

    Proper husbandry
Allowed substrate which mean NO CEDAR, no pine

    Ideal enclosure size
    Quarantine

Once you are mastering those basics, learn about breeding but know that there is NO RUSH first time or not.

but wait a minute...you have to learn to crawl before you can walk!

You are asking about breeding and tell me why....should anybody here provide you with any advice on that when you won't take the advice given about your basic husbandry???

Do you really think all you do is toss them in together and they lock up and BAM eggs!

    Hell no!

Breeding is alot more complicated than that.

You don't want to seem to learn anything..you seem to have selective reading...you read and retain the info you want and if you don't like what someone writes you get all bent.
