Does anyone actually have a BP that balls up?
    I do :)
Gunther, our recent addition.. he is a big baby. He is about 2000 grams, a big snake. But the second you go to remove him from his tub.. he balls up like a knot. None of my others do this.. my spider actually tries to slither away when you grab him, and the others either sit there or hiss (one hisser; Luna..) You?

when i first got my bp she would ball up everytime i took her out. but after a few days, she didn't do it anymore. and still hasn't to this day. maybe because he's getting used to his new home?

when i first got my male he balled up, now hes just very into rapping around my fingers tightly when holding, i think its for security. he then after about 4 mins of holding hell loosen up and move around.

I havent held him for a few days tho because im waiting to hold until he eats again.

It is funny to see a big adult BP ball-up though! Like a big ostrich burying its head. I love these snakes :)

I got a few hisser but its always a bluff. The only time any of mine ball up is on the weekends when I go in the snake room. We have wooden floors so they feel the vibrations very easily and if you peek in their hides youll seem em tighten up. Other than that I work during the week and theyre usually awake when I'm home. They all get a good portion of handling so theyre rather comfortable being held.

This was my 7th(?) bp... *finally* it made sense. :)

The rest will retract and the odd duck and jab, but they don`t ball up.

heh....that one looks like it belongs on one of those faux motivational (demotivational?) posters.

that photo, combined with the title "DENIAL" and then some scathing truism :)

    Thanks MF,

He is pretty sweet. He is like that most of the time in his enclosure. When I take him out he will sit there in my lap for about ten minutes then slowly start to unwind. Slowly wander around. He is not flightly or nervous in the least. Just a really even-tempered laidback snake. I think he just feels more secure in that position.

I have his sibling clutch mate and she is on of those snakes that as you are opening the enclosure she is out with her head and neck around the forearm.

Both sound like great snakes to keep! God, their personalities are the best, aren't they? I LOVE BP's, and snakes in general!

Mostly the babies tend to ball up more than the adults.

And only the flighty adults/subadults ball up for me.

Funny you ask because I was playing with my little one yesterday and my parents were right there and I said... "I don't know about a ball python... Maybe a rope python or a string python... Definitely not a ball."

He NEVER balls up, I take him out and he is INSTANTLY all over me.

He gets handled frequently, just seems to like the security of being balled up.

I couldn't agree more. I started with BPs and have diversified to 3 species, with plans for more. Just going slow and making sure I can provide for them, and meet their needs before I get too many.
