Adorable Ratties
I thought you guys might like to see 2 of my favorite ratties...
I produced this male Blue Blaze from a Blue self & a Black self (het for blue)...

And I found this Siamese Dumbo male at a "mom & pop" pet shop - in the FEEDER bin...

I've always loved Siamese Dumbos & my hubby thought I was crazy to buy this guy 3 hours from home!!

Re: Adorable Ratties
Thanks... The Blue Blaze is my pride & joy!!! I worry that he may only be able to be a buddy for breeder males, due to the blaze, but he's so sweet I can't feed him off!!

Re: Adorable Ratties
Wow, that is a great looking blaze he has there! And nice siamese too. ;)

Re: Adorable Ratties
Hey rats need buddies too. They are social animals besides I have a couple that are my tub cleaning parteners.

Re: Adorable Ratties
That is a nifty male; actually they both are :) I am glad that you took genetics into consideration when deciding not to breed him. It is amazing what you can find in the feeder bin sometimes too though.

Re: Adorable Ratties
Oh both are lovely rats and in great shape. I have a large male Siamese as one of our breeder males here and he's a love, very nice tempered and fathers great litters.
You're Blue is nice but I'd be hesitant to use him as a breeder due to his color and facial markings. If you do decide to use him to produce feeders I'd go with females that are solid (selfs), dark in color and have a record of producing perfect offspring - basically to try and offset any possible genetic issues. It might be easier to let him be just a buddy rat to your actively breeding males and even a pet for you. Your decision really, I'd just be a bit cautious with that particular male.

Re: Adorable Ratties
I agree completely!! For now he is a buddy for the breeder males. I may never breed him, but if I do, it would only be to a dark self female!

He looks exactly like a male I took up to the local reptile shop the other day for a friend who works there. I was worried that he ended up in the feeder bin by accident!
I have one blaze female, who I always put with a self male. She has thrown the largest, healthiest litters for me in addition to being my sweetest most loving rattie. Her offspring are always adorable, but I can't justify having any more blazes.

Re: Adorable Ratties
Siamese are very hard to come by here in NC! We were visiting the in-laws in VA when I found this cutie I was floored that a Dumbo was in the feeder tank, then dropped my jaw when I noticed he was Siamese!!! My hubby thought I had lost my mind - $6 for a rat & $10 for a carry case to get him home in comfort! They are feeder breeders, but I love the unusual colors & markings.
