    Going to breed cornsnake
Zim is an '06 and I was wanting to breed her (probed female) when she is old/big enough. I was wondering what the appropriate size is for a breedable female. She is nearing 200g. Zim is a snow corn and I have no clue about corn snake morphs or genetics. Is there a site that would tell me the results of certain pairings, especially for snows.

And does anyone know of any sites on cornsnake breeding. I will be looking myself, but anything anyone wants to input would be nice. :D

Well when i bred my females they were as round as your thumb.I never weighed them so cant help you on the exact weight .If i remember right they were at least 2yrs old(never knew exact ages). The snow female i had laid a unexpected clutch when she was just 18 months old.I never knew they could bred at such a young age and had her with my amel male(i know now that was a ooops :P).Now the genetic stuff is mind boggling to me so cant help on that part :O

The general breeding rule that most breeders I know follow by are:
3 years 300g (and some say 3 feet).

Most sites that will tell you what you get are sorta useless if you don't understand how you got that result though.
So if you really want to try and learn up on genetics I would suggest the corn snake morph guide to get you some learning :)

Where is this corn snake morph guide? I have looked up corn snake morphs before and only found pictures.

And thanks for all the info. Zim is over a year now and will be 2 years come this summer.

Does anyone know when the breeding season starts for corn snakes? I'll do some looking around.

Most Corn breeders brumate the snakes during the winter (around 50F)...Warm them back up in the Spring and let them have at...Corns are super easy - Pretty much just put them together...The offspring depends on what your breeding...Snow X Normal? That would give you double hets for Snow (Het Amels & Het Anerys)...Snow x Snow - All Snows...All depends on whos the mom and pop and what genes they are carrying...

Well, I'm wanting to pick up a nice morph female this spring to breed my Ghost boy, so I've done a bit of research on the subject. Here are a few helpful sites I found:

VMS Herp month-by-month calander of breeding events
    http://www.vmsherp.com/LCBreedingCorns.htm

    Downloadable corn snake morph predictor
    http://home.comcast.net/~spencer62/cornprog.html

The book would be a good pickup as well. :)

300g is the minimum you'd want to try and breed a female at. A good forum with lots of info is www.cornsnakes.com. Similar to here but for corns.

As for what to breed your snow with, depends on what you want to produce really.

I would love to produce Blizzards but I'm not sure if Snow has any kind of genetics for that. I'll have to look it up. I'll weigh Zim tonight since its weigh our snakes night. Everyone is getting weighed. Even the mice. lol.

No you do not have the correct genetics for producing blizzards.
You need amel plus a charcoal (aneryB)

    Would anery a produce blizzards?

No. Anery B (charcoal) produces blizzards. If you wanted bilzzards, then you could breed a blizzard to your snow and produce amels het anery a & b. Then breed those together and produce blizzards, snows, and snakes homozygous for anery a & b. A very round about way to do it, but could be a fun side project.

lol, so my 'sunglow' that is 'het' for snow is het regardless? Like, to make a snow, you need anery anyways... right? Or when they say het snow they mean het something else? My sunglow is Anery het Amel?

    Re: Going to breed cornsnake
Well since a snow is a combination of anery A and amel your sunglow is het for amel and anery a

Are there any nice looking snakes I could produce (other than more Snows) that look nice?

Actually, it's homo for amel and het for anery a.

As for producing something other than snows, take a look at any of the morphs that have either amel or anery in the mix. You could purchase one of those and produce hets and then make more of them in the F2. But in the F1, unless your snake has hidden hets, you can only produce normals, anerys, amels, and snows.

    Re: Going to breed cornsnake
If I get a Charcoal (Anery B), I can breed it to my snow and get het for blizzard, het for anery. (according to the corn snake morph thing I downloaded).

I could possibly do that and hatch out a lot of hets with the slim possibility of getting a blizzard later on down the road with some more breeding, which is one morph of corn I really want.
