Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
Hi all, finished my new caging system and the flexwatt will arrive hopefully tomorrow. I would like to get others suggestions on how to mount the flexwatt as it will be inside of the enclosure.
Here is a link to the cage i built.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get my set up working top notch for a good week or so before I decide to move my two BP's in.
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
Setup looks great! Very nice job :gj: The flexwatt shouldn't be put inside the cage as far as I know (for BPs anyway) could be wrong
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
I'm sure that many people would know better than I do but I would question putting flexwatt on the inside unless you made some kind of waterproof container for it. It looks like you could probably mount it on the outside of the pegboard and you would have backheat like a rack. They make waterproof heating panels for the inside of course for mo' money. I would mount flexwatt on the outside of the backwall myself though. You could just tape it in place with aluminum tape. That's a real nice looking cage that you built.

Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
I ordered mine from reptile basics. you can order it by the foot, but don't forget to also purchase the wire/clip set too.
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
maybe buy pieces of glass that would fit on the bottom and then put the flexwatt underneath, then silicone all the edges then connect to tstat

Beanfarm.com is good too. Although reptilebasic wires them to how you want it.
I made a cage before and used laminated flooring with silicone around it. works good. another option is a radiant heat panel. I have one in the f/s one if your interested.
What ever option you choose...good luck
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
Atp and Krazy, thanks for the thoughts. I'm going to look into both ideas and see if I can't arrange something that will work.
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
If you seal the connections with silicone very well and place the flexwatt under glass or plexiglass/acrylic/etc and seal that up so it's water proof, then it's fine to use inside the cage. Biggest thing is to make sure it's water proof and you'll be fine. I've been doing it this way for years problem free.

Thanks for the help... I have some extra plexi around so I'm going to get that method set up when the Flex arrives.
appreciate your time

They look nice! I think the waterproof/ acrylic is a good idea if you cant afford or want a radiant heat panel.:gj:

Plexiglass would be a good option, but you can see the flexwatt through it and kinda expensive(depending on supplier)....
Lowes has some...I would get the thinnest(cheaper) one they have.
I was referring to linoleum flooring...sorry. The ones that are sold in squares. Pretty cheap...a dollar or two each..
Let us know when your done. Pics would be a good:P
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
So I finally got around to getting the new set up completed and the snakes moved in.
I went with the plexi over the flex and angled it away from the cords and then siliconed everything.

And here is the final product.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and for just looking.

Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
Wow!! That looks very very nice. I am extremely impressed. Your bps are living the good life. ;)
My only concern, is that it looks like you have aluminum tape covering up the hole in one of the vivs where the cords run through? I might try cutting a piece of wood or pegboard to cover it up. My concern would be the tape possibly starting to come undone and then getting stuck to your snake. Other than very awesome job.
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
Looks like your ambient temps are 72.. I would bump that up to at least 80 if you don't want to have a vet visit soon.
Re: Placing Flex watt in a new set up?
the ambients are the hardest thing for me to keep up as the cage is in my school classroom and the temps fluctuate ridiculously. I'm still working on keeping them up without getting the hot spot to a crazy temp. I'm going to try to rig a heat source up along the back to help raise the ambients up some.
Thanks for the suggestions.
