Pet Store Pick-up

Not sure if I'll be keeping this girl or if she'll be moving on to a friend or not yet. She was dropped off four days ago with two smaller ball pythons.

I went in to grab two mice and came out with her as well as the mice. She's 1410 grams and a nice looking girl.

Her QT tub as all new additions are, was pre-treated with PAM.

She is sort of reduced-ish isn't she. I honestly just saw a new big ball python, made a beeline for her and popped her. Then headed for the front for them to weigh her for me. After asking if John, the owner would sell her to me for what I was willing to pay.

It's hit or miss. Honestly, I wish he kept his reptiles better, but I do always check out the reptile area for any new drop-offs before they've had a chance to be there long.

And ALWAYS pre-treat with PAM and QT - as I remember when he DID have mites a few years ago, so I just don't take any chances - even if they appear mite free.

Well, we'll see if my friend wants her or not. I really didn't need a new female, but if she stays, we'll see if Murphy has enough size on him for me to feel comfortable running him through her later this spring. I know, I know John - he's already bred! :P

She reminds me a lot of Hannah with her patterning. Moreso when I looked at her pictures.

See, I don't even consider her truly reduced, because of the alien heads on her.

The only pet stores in the area up here in WA refuse to let anyone sex anything and they never know what the sexes are either so I don't even go back to the reptile sections even though the employees that know me always tell me when they get something new in.

So are ya keepin her or what?

Melissa, this pet store would NEVER let me sex when I first started going there, at the time I only knew how to probe, and he swore that would sterilize them - I asked him why he cared, as if it was a girl, I'd be buying her, and how many people did he have that actually bred or cared even what the sex was.

Over the years we've built a trust and he doesn't care if I probe or pop now - I think he realizes I know a "little"' bit more than he does with ball pythons.

And my friend is taking her in a couple of months.

She weighed 1410 grams the day I picked her up - she ate with the rest of the crew on feeding day!
