    12 snakes of christmas
My daughter had an assignment at school to re-make the 12 days of christmas and this is what she came up with. I had to share being I knew the herpers here could enjoy it, we're not so sure about her teacher tho hehe. I cut the longness out and just went the final verse tho.

On the twelveth day of Christmas the pet store gave to me.....
    Twelve piebalds preying.
    Eleven retics resting.
    Ten sidewinders winding.
    Nine cobras spitting.
    Eight cotton mouths.
    Seven anacondas.
    Six green tree pythons.
    Five rattle snakes!!!!!!
    Four redtail boas.
    Three burmese pythons.
    Two garter snakes.
And a ball python in a Christmas tree.

She says Thank you!! maybe she will be a little more confident turning this one in. She has agonized over a week on this as she was given a blank hard cover book and it needs to be fully illustrated as well. Whats made it hard is her teacher hates snakes so it was pretty brave of her to choose to do it.

I had a teacher that hated snakes to, but she's the one that after she read one of my poems about snakes, she pulled me aside when we had free time and asked me a TON of questions about them. She was really interested.

That is too cute! Her teacher better grade that properly, not based on a personal prejudice against snakes.

    Love it:D

Just sang it to my husband. He's chuckling.

I've heard a cat version of the 12 Days of Christmas but this is the first Snake version. Your daughter should copyright it.

Well done to her. She deserves top marks for that one :snake:

I have been thinking about this post since I read it a few days ago. It is so awesome that she did that.

I came across a book called "The Twelve Dogs of Christmas." It was written by a 7 yr old girl named Emma Kragen with photographs by Donald Fuller. Lady Python has a good point - but don't just copyright it, shop it around as a book!! Or at a minimum, make it your Christmas card next year.

Tell that girl she has TALENT! Also, how did the teacher react?

    She's got talent alright:D

Perhaps she could write a book of Snake poetry and/or songs?

Anything good like that she writes should be copyrighted first. As far as I know all you need to do to copyright it is have her post the original copy to herself (strange but true) and use her name when publishing anything and the (c) symbol.

Thanks for all the advice on this I will look into getting it copyrighted for her as she is very proud of this one. And as her mommy so am I !

She turned it in and her teacher has not yet graded it but told her she she wasn't sure as she included pictures. Altho she was told too. Im pretty frustrated with the teacher in this aspect as she seems to show no encouragement for a students passion and I hope it doesnt discourage her from continuing to do choice assignments on snakes. I feel if a teacher gives an assignment with your own choice of themes it should be respected and treated fair no matter whether she likes the subject or not. Unfortuantly her last snake project was given a lower grade for no apparent reason either. It was her first C ever and she took it too heart.

I really hate when teachers do that:mad:

Don't let her become discouraged if this teacher marks her down because the teacher is incapable of separating her own personal feelings about snakes from her professional life.

Unfortunately, there are many teachers who do this for whatever reason. I had my share of them too nearly 40 years ago.

If you feel she deserved a higher grade, you should talk to the teacher about it. If you are unsatisfied with that, talk to the principle or head teacher, if there is one. Get the "Twelve Dogs of Christmas" from the library and show them someone did one similar and got it published! Good luck!
