    New incubator
Hey well this it the new incubator. Just an upright freezer I paid 5.00 for. Then the Helix was like 135.00 or so cant remember. 4 foot of 11 inch heat tape. Again cant remember what that was either. But not that much money and I get 8 12 qt tubs in there. Depending on the size of the clutch smaller ill use smaller tubs. Well thanks for looking.

Yah its all ready its the same thing I used last year. Only not the same freezer. The one I had didnt have as many shelves as this one. And for 5.00 it was cheaper and easier to fix this one up than it would to add shelves to the old one.

Very nice! Do you use a fan in there too?

    Re: New incubator
I dont have one in this one. I didnt use one on the old one I had either. Everything worked fine for me without one. Not sure if I can figure out how to hook one up I might. Ive got it set up and running, im going to check and see what the temps are at. Then go from there I dont think I will need to use one. What would be the reason to use a fan? Just to keep temps more even.

lol yah a bit cool I just plugged it in to make sure everything was working. Once I get that room cleaned out and all that. Thats where my rat/mouse racks and incubator are going to go.

Nice incubator. You can make one of those fans really easily for under $10 shipped.

    http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...NSFORMER_.html

Just cut off the connectors on the fan and transformer, then connect them with a little electrical tape. You can buy two fans and connect them to the same transformer to have one blowing up and one blowing down to circulate the air, too. A small switch can be added anywhere in line so you don't have to run it all the time.

Ok thanks. Would I be able to just plug it into the helix and let that run the fan? Not sure on how that works.

Connect the fan to the transformer and plug the transformer into an outlet other than your t-stats outlet. If you plug the transformer into your t-stats outlet, the fan speed will be affected by the t-stats output, which is undesirable IMO. I hope this helps. Good luck.

    Re: New incubator
So the fan doesnt have to reach outside air, it is just to circulate the air inside?

    Re: New incubator
Yeah no outside air. I think its to keep the temps more even from top to bottom.

Yes, the fan(s) are used to circulate the air inside the incubator to prevent or at least reduce the stratification of temperatures in the incubator.

    Re: New incubator
Yah I had to drill a hole in the back. Then put the cord through the hole. Then wire up the heat tape. Also in the top for the probe.
