Michael Vick gets 23 months

Just a few moments ago Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months for his role in a "dogfighting conspiracy" and the killing of 6-8 pitbulls that didn't perform well in the fights.

that's sad... should be longer.

His life is ruined... half of me wishes he had gotten a longer sentence - the other half wants to believe that he can redeem himself and become a advocate against the thuggery culture so many of these young superstars are choosing.

I wonder how long he'll ACTUALLY serve?

I'm gonna guess between 9-11 months he will serve. Only if he is a good boy in jail.

I actually agree with you. He could have received 5 years and ended up with one month shy of 2 years, with three years probation. The prosecutors had only recommended a sentence of between 12 and 18 months. So I'm actually happy to see he got more then what the prosecutors even suggested.

His football career may or may not be ruined. But as to his life be ruined he will still be a young man when he gets out and he will probably leave jail with many times over the money that you will earn in a whole lifetime.

I think he has to serve at least 18 months and still has to face state charges.

I agree with Justin, I guarantee you that is career that is now ruined, is much more of a punishment that jail would ever be. Think about it, he went from pro player, to dog abuser in 1 day.

The only thing I am thinking that he's sorry of, is that he got caught. I hope/wish that this is not so, though.

ESPN said that if he behaves then 3 months maximum can be knocked off his sentence.

I would of preferred to see him lose a good chunk of his money instead of being jailed.... he fills a spot that could be filled by people far worse then him.

Be banned from endorsing anything, not be paid for interviews, no donations etc and be forced to pay a huge amount to charaties... like animal shelters or similar worthwhile programs.

He think he nearly bankrupt and the falcons are seeking nearly 20 million back from him that he was already paid. (they argue that he was knowingly violating his contract when he signed it...)

I know he's trying to sell his house no more than 30 minutes from here (4.5 million) Vick has agreed to pay nearly 1 million for the care of the dogs that were still alive on his property when it was raided.

If he returns to the NFL someday he will get paid for that but I doubt an endorser would touch him with a 10 ft pole at least in the near future.

so he's getting both his money taken and the prison sentence. Seems fair.

I have a pit and I think it is a damn shame that people already feel the way they do about them but since they are just dogs...their disposable?

I laugh at some peoples posts about mike vick should die and hope he gets to be someones b*tch in prison. even that he was not a good football player. Even if you hate him you have to agree that he was a rare tallent so dont even bring that up. The reason everyone hates him so much is because they were dogs and everyone loves dogs (accept me:D) if he was fighting and killing any other animal no one would give a crap. I am so glad that this criminal is serving some time for doing what is not only legally wrong, but twisted and cruel too. I am by no means a bland conservative who blindly supports laws. There are many things out there that are considered to be illegal that I have no problems with when they are regulated. But fighting two animals for human sadism and gain? No flippin' way.
