Post your horses..?
I know that you horsepeople are out there! Please post your horse(s) or the ones that you ride, interact with, or just plain love.
Here are a few shots of the kids. (or at least the closest things that we want to kids!)
Me with Emma.

Re: Post your horses..?
Did everyone sell off their horses? I knew prices were low since the whole slaughter ban, but geesh :) Or maybe people have outside lives on Saturdays, unlike myself..

Re: Post your horses..?
Mine died and I am going back to school so I don't have time to dedicate to one right now. My sister has sixteen. I share hers for now. It's nice, I can ride , get lessons or sit and shoot the crap with out the hassle. I will be going out in the near future to work with them. Had to wait for a release from my doctor since I got hurt at work a couple weeks ago. I may post pics of my favorites that I spend the most time with.

Sounds cool. Believe me, there are cold nights when I am hauling manure at 10pm, through 2 feet of snow, that I wish someone else would do the dirty work. But then I get the warm feeling of knowing that I am supporting these two, and it makes the work all worthwhile. I have not actually ridden seriously in.. a few years now! I rode a little bit on Cuesta last summer, but while my husband finds time to ride and keep them in line in that department, I just work too danged much. But now that we are going with having them outside more often (with a run-in shelter and free-choice quality hay) I am spending less time shoveling poop and more time being able to bond with them.. and Cuesta tends to stock-up in her legs if stalled too long anyway; while Emma just wants to run.

She's a cutie. I know that roans are relatively rare around here. I guess that though, if they get a cut, the scar will heal but the hair will be non-roan? This is what my friend said, thus people have to go out of their way more with roans, to keep them from getting cuts and scrapes?

Re: Post your horses..?
Those are some awesome horses. I am a paint-QH type myself.. I can relate to that. I think that if I were a horse, that's what I'd be; a somewhat heavy-headed chestnut QH mare.

Re: Post your horses..?
I use to have a horse before moving to the east coast. :(
Here's some pics... her name was Dixie and she's a breeding stock paint. She had a baby last year name Bailey.. which is what my old cat's name was. Kinda weird...
Here's a link to current pics at her and her baby.

Re: Post your horses..?
I've had and have ridden MANY horses over the years. I use to work on a horse farm and in return the owner gave me ridding lessons and then let me ride for free when I knew what I was doing. My instructor use to pull horses from auctions and do what she had to do to fix them up and I'd help her train them. As I got older I started pulling horses from auction and rehabilitating them and training them on her property. After they came around and were trained we then sold them or found them forever homes for the ones who weren't ridable.
I no longer have time to do that and I wish every day that I could be 10-20 again just so I could live that kind of life all over again.
The one and only horse that has been by my side since I was 10 and who taught me how to ride and learned how to have patients is Ribbons. She's a QH/TB. She was only 5 when I first met her and a total nut case. I remember her casing me up a few tree's and over barbwire fences, taking me on some non stop race horse running, also turning in to a bronco and dumping me quite a bit. She also nearly killed me by pinning me in her stall. She is now 18 and probably one of the best horses I've ever met, you now can put any age kid or adult on her back and she won't move a muscle unless you tell her to do so.

Re: Post your horses..?
Awe Alison; she looks like one of "those" horses that we only find a few times in a lifetime, if we are lucky. I think that the ones that try us, are really the ones that teach us the most (if we survive them, hehe.) That last pic is just priceless IMO.. I can see a definite connection there.
Bojangles; that is an adorable jumper. Reminds me of the TB that I learned on; I never, ever did jumping but I was taught by a woman who was great at it..

Re: Post your horses..?
Awe, those are some nice horses. I like the first breeding-stock Paint. I often think that the solids get the bum end of the stick, not bei ng as flashily-marked as tobianos, etc. I love giving one a home for this reason :) I learned a lot in my first few years as an owner. We picked Emma, our colorful mare, based on her looks. Cuesta, being a solid chestnut Paint, is a hundred times more sane, reliable and trustworthy than Emma. I will never buy a companion, pet-type horse based on coloration again :)

Re: Post your horses..?
I love breeding stocks. Honestly you get the bloodlines, the attitude and the association (I'm a big fan of the APHA) and you pay 1/3 of the price you'd dish out for a regular registry animal. Though Chey (the first BS you liked) was a spaz. I started her right before I sold her, she was never consistant. Over a year of groundwork and you'd never know what you were getting into when climbing aboard. She's also the only horse I know of who bucked backing up.... crazy loon. But she was sweet most of the time.
Shelby, the other filly was a love. I so so so so so so so wish I could have kept her. I also had a QH mare named Gwena that I can't find any photos of, she would fall asleep on your lap if you were foolish enough to sit down around her. Loved those guys. And of course Danny... :( Moving sucks, but when we move back home in '09 I'm going to work on tracking everyone down and possibly purchasing a few back (such as Shelby and Gwena and Danny). The two appies, the contact info for their 'new' owner is no longer valid and their papers haven't been updated according to the ApHC so that's gonna be a fun search. Grand total of 16 horses and I have current contact info on five.
You know, I can fall in love with a horses color but if I don't 'click' with them I won't buy them, then there are a few horses that I really kick myself for not buying.

Re: Post your horses..?
I definately hear you on the kick-for-not-buying thing. See, Cuesta was up for sale in 2002 by my friend. I adored this horse and really wished that we could buy her, but she was priced out of our league. Then some woman who was an "expert" bought her, and she was back at my friend's house in a short time; a complete bag of bones. Shoes that had been left on as her feet outgrew them. I actually cried when I saw her again. My friend rehabbed her for a few months and she gained her weight back and was/is actually a bit of a chub now. We were in the market for another horse.. and traded our Log-Splitter for her! I love this horse. Emma I would not be heartbroken if we had to sell, but Cuesta, I would hold on to if I had to take on 6 more jobs to support us all.
Cuesta is sound finally now. Even a few months ago, she still was on-and-off pained, especially while trimming. It was just to the point that we were going to get her looked at, and she would be fine. Well since Oct-November, she has been fine and exhibits no pain while her feet are trimmed or picked, as she was before. She never went lame or foundered, but we thought that maybe she had abscesses, or navicular.. but she is not lame or anything now.
Argh for people who neglect their horses!
