    Rack Question
    Hi there,

This is my first time posting on BP.net but I have been on here endlessly reading for a couple of months now. I have to say, all of you are amazing for the wealth of information that is shared on here. For a newbie like me... it's a gold mine.

Let me introduce myself... I'm Vlad from Ottawa, Ontario and have a normal juvie female bp that I picked up about 2 months ago. With a lot of help from here, I got her tank set up to the right temperatures... humidity is a bit of a pain because it's a screen top but my wife is great for helping out. And as most of you already know... bps are like chips.. can't stop at one. I'm hooked.

My question for you guys and gals is... I am considering ordering a Boaphile RhinoRaXX 5 drawer sideways rack with a 4 small and 3 large configuration... would it be a waste to get a rack like this to only put one snake in for now? ... I am definitely planning on getting more and I was looking for something that can accomodate them as they come in.
I would then use my current tank in another room as quarantine as they come in.

I know this is a long post.. so I apologize for droning on ... I just wanted to get your opinions.

    Thanks everyone

I am not familer with the that rack system. I'd look it up but I have dial up and I try to stay away from sites that have pictures that need to load. But if you are going to get more snake anyways, you'll eventually need a rack if that is the type of habitat you want them all in (instead of a million tanks). So I'd say go for it. Again I am not sure on the sizes or anything, so I'll let someone else handle that.

    EDIT: BTW, welcome!

Sure its ok, as long as you put the other slots to use eventually with more bp's:gj:. Welcome to the crew.

Welcome to the site. If you're addicted and you are sure you are going to get more snakes, I say order it. If you have the money order 2. 1 for quarantine and one for permanent residency. I have 3 racks. Only 1 is full, but I have to build a new one this month to quarantine a couple of new snakes I'm getting. I get new ones so often that I need racks all over my condo to quarantine everything.

I have three of the Boaphile racks. They are VERY nice. I plan on getting a few more. I would highly recommend them.

    Thanks a lot everyone.
Looks like it's a go then... can't do two racks just yet .. too much $$$ for now.. will stick to one for now.
Of course, I'll have to wait until after Christmas. The kids' presents are gonna be expensive enough.. my present to myself will have to wait. :)

You are smart to get a rack before getting bunch of glass tanks and finding that they take up too much space. I wish that I would have known better. Take a look at www.nsreptiles.com and see if the racks there are a little easier on your pocketbook. Boaphile products are certainly good stuff if thats what you like best.

Thanks again. I'll check them out for sure. The only thing I found with a lot of the companies who sell racks or other herp supplies was that shipping to Canada is either not available or incredibly expensive. Reptile Basics was one place I was looking at and with the reputation Rich has on here... I was good to go.. but he got back to me saying he wasn't set up to ship to Canada unfortunately.... damned sled dogs won't pull that much ;) hahahaha

Seriously though.. I have one more quick question on the same subject. The racks that you have... do they have enough clearance at the top of the tub to be considered ventilation or do you have to make holes in the tub?

    Hi and welcome Vlad!!! :):D:)

I don't have any experience with Boaphile, but I've heard great things about them... I currently have 2 adult AP (Animal Plastics) in use... and I LOVE them. ***The gap at the top of the AP works as just enough ventilation**** Where as, on the AP baby rack, and another rack I have... I've had to add holes in the tubs.

    Again! Welcome :)

I do also haft to mention that I'm in Texas... so lack of humidity really isn't as big of a problem as I'm sure it is other places...

    Hi Vlad,
I would try Casey at www.nsreptiles.com . I ordered an incubator from him a week and a half ago, and it arrived today. Apparently FedEx doesn't use sled dogs lol.
    Take care,
    Jason

You have to drill holes or melt holes with a soldering iron. I think that is true of any of them. These racks come with flexwatt installed as well. I dont know where you are in Canada but Natures Spirit is at the Taylor Michigan (Detroit) reptile show the 2nd Saturday of every month and if you order ahead online you can pick them up without the shipping cost and they are more than reasonable. If you email them they would give you a prompt response about shipping cost to you.

Welcome to BPNet, Vlad. Ottawa is a lovely city, I used to visit a lot as a child. Do the swams still swim the river?

Casey from Nature's Spirit is a great guy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. I think one of our Mods here has a Boaphile rack so hopefully she'll comment at some point about how they work.

Glad you are enjoying the site and congrats on your first ball python.

Franky, thanks for the welcome. I love this site. So informative... and it's always open when I'm at work. ;) hehehe

Yep, we still have the swans. They were penned up for a while due to bird flu worries (typical city overreaction)... but they're out and about. Beautiful for sure.
Ottawa is a really nice city but oh so cold in the winter. hehehe

Nature's Spirit sure has a good rep on here so I will be definitely getting in touch with Casey once the time to buy comes around. The main reason I was considering a boaphile was because, out of the ones I researched, they were one of the very few to ship reasonably to Canada. I originally wanted a RB rack but Rich doesn't ship up here :(

Thanks again and you'll definitely be seeing more of me as I pick up more bps. My kids are stoked :D

    Re: Rack Question
I have Boaphile, Animal Plastics, Jasons Jungle, and Vision racks.

I like the Boaphile and the Animal Plastics equally well. Boaphile has a reputation of taking a VERY long time, however. (Including my own order)

Jasons Jungle is very nice as well.

Vision is not as good, but good for the price they offer :)
