Austin Reptile Show Pick-ups!!!
Well, I finally got around to borrowing a friends camera to take a quick pics of my two new snakes for yall.
I would like to thank MPenn (Mike) for the wonderful little coastal. He's more than a bit nippy, so I didn't want to disturb him much and remove him from his set-up for the pic. Here's the best pic I could get of him in the horrid inside lighting.

And then my little pastel male I picked up as well. I've never really been a huge pastel fan, but then I saw this guy and I just had to get him. He's no where near the yellowist pastel in existence, however it's the blushing that won me over big time!

I'll get some better pics for yall after their first meal and I find a better camera. Thanks for looking!

I would have left with a few more, but the chaperone said no dice. But hey... she wasn't gonna let me get anything at all when we first walked in, I think i did a pretty good job convincing her otherwise! lol

Dealing with mike is great. If I decide to get another carpet down the road i would not hesitate to deal with him again.

Nice pick-ups! Both are very cool snakes. Is the nippyness of the coastal common or is it just a hatchling thing? I haven't dealt with coastals before.

Coastals, as well as other carpet species, tend to be a bit nippy as hatchlings. As they get a bit more size on them and get accustomed to some handling, they tame down quite a bit.

Re: Austin Reptile Show Pick-ups!!!
When I got home and was putting him in his set-up and giving him one last look over before his acclimation time he didn't bite at all. Granted he had his mouth wide open waving it around threateningly, but no more micro nicks in my hands to show for it. I'm having a hard time waiting the week to handle him as somehow I enjoy the unpredictableness compared to a ball, and love the idea of hand taming him. On the other hand... melissa still won't come within 3 feet of him. lol

Dude welcome to the addiction!!!
I now am on two Coastals (male Red from Mike). I agree Mike is a great guy to deal with and has some pure lines, which seems to be harder and harder to find everyday.
Carpets rock.
Good luck and I want updates!!
Mike

Re: Austin Reptile Show Pick-ups!!!
well a little bit of a update for yall!
Leggo Mah Finger (the coastal) has toned it down quite a bit. He's always in strike position, but now will only let one fly if you move too quickly while holding him. He's fed for me twice now, with strikes literally the moment he recognizes the prey. He's got a pretty violent feeding response. As long as he doesn't express it on my when he gets bigger, we're in good shape.
Jigsaw (jiggy for short) skipped his first meal with me. He killed the mouse, but then left and never came back to it. However, his second mouse, he killed it, but wouldnt eat until I left the room. When I came back he was already back snug up in his hide with no mouse to be found.
when it's all said and done, I'm quite happy with the duo, they make for some interesting additions to my growing collection.

:8: What a great name! :8: He is still young but seems to be settling in well. With more time, he will calm down even better.
