    Salmon Boa Female (DUW)
So yesterday my gf and I followed up on a CL ad for Salmon Boas. We went to the location, and was in love. (not to mention we could care for them better than they could). Here is one of the females. She was titled as a "Salmon Boa", but that was it. Anyone have any suggestions as to what she is? Thanx so much!

didnt knwo there was a "super salmon" i suppose there could be..

thats just what i found, there were lots of salmon boa pictures when you look up "salmon boa" under google image search, that was just a normal looking salmon one (not hypo, exc)..

perhaps a more seasoned boa owner can help

She looks like a hypomelanistic boa... I don't know if she's a salmon or not.

There are different lines of Hypo in boas, just like there are different lines of pastels in BPs, Lemon and Graziani. There's the Orange Tail line, the Salmon line, etc. So, for her to be a Salmon boa, she would have to be a hypo from that line... which is really hard to tell without proper paperwork.

Super hypos or super salmons have very little black on them, as well as very small saddles. They are usually very clean and very bright.

Nice pick-up... she should make some nice looking hypos for you down the road... or even, dare I say...... ghosts?!:D

Supers are normally quite a bit cleaner, with less black in them. Supers can, however, look quite a bit like normals... these are usually questionable as to whether or not they are really supers and are labeled as possibles (they will not be from a super to super breeding, but from normal hypo to normal hypo).

Supers are homozygous for the hypo gene. When bred to a normal, they will produce all supers.

could be a dark hypo, either low grade or just needs some good care.

or a salmon, i just don't know why someone would craigslist a salmon boa, they're the popular boa right now.

Definately a hypo, look at the tail saddles. Salmon... don't think so. Salmons tend to be pretty clean, colorful and much lighter than other hypo lines, which is why they're so popular; they can add lots of color to lots of projects.

Along the same lines, though, an adult hypo of any line can run you a pretty penny, especially females. And she looks pretty big... curious as to what you got her for?

For her nice orange color, and her size, I would definitely say you got a steal.

You can clean up those freckles with a nice pastel... or get a cleaner hypo male, breed them, and get yourself some possible super hypos :) Or.... get yourself an anery/ivory and make some DH ghosts... ;)

Seriously, the possibilities are endless with a girl like that!

well he has a male that he is callin a salmon as well, and he is alot cleaner. he has another female too that has a few less freckles. thank you so much for your input, we really had no idea on what she was. when my gf gets home ill make her post some pics of her outside. so you def think shes a hypo? thats just as good in my book, becuase she is stunning in person those pics dont do justice, and i know everyone says that but i REALLY mean it! ;)

    Re: Salmon Boa Female (DUW)
You know, I can't be sure... but the more I look at that tail, the more I think she's a Central American hypo of some sort.

Check out the hypo nics on this page (the hypo nics are at the bottom): http://ballpython.com/page.php?topic=bcavailable

Of course, there's no way to tell for sure. If she's a CA, she's a pretty good size girl for that subspecies.

She may just be a very dark hypo Columbian.

    Re: Salmon Boa Female (DUW)
Yes that is a Hypomelanistic, aka Salmon. You see the very slight "bowtie" saddles? It also has that very reduced black around the red saddles on the tail too. It's not a "top notch" salmon, very muddy actually, but it is a Salmon/Hypo nonetheless. I've seen worse, but she's not the cleanest Salmon...I would make sure whatever I bred her to was EXTREMELY super clean in order to balance some of her peppering and such.

To also clarify, a super salmon/hypo boa cannot really be pointed out too easily. They USUALLY will have a higher contrast and much more abberancies, but this is not always the case. It's a "breed and proove" thing.
