    New TV got fried rant
I bought a 32" flat panel TV in September. It's awesome, but Our power went out on Saturday night, and now the TV won't turn on. I didn't buy the extended plan, so I have to figure out where I'll have to ship the screen to to get it fixed. I'll be hitting up Craigslist to find an old box to replace it until I eventually get it fixed and returned. I don't watch a lot of TV, but it was my computer monitor, too. :taz:

this is going to sound really stupid, but did you unplug it and plug it back in? I have run into this problem a couple of times in my line of work, and it has worked for me! "sometimes"

That's the first thing I did. Then I unplugged it for 10 minutes when it didn't work. Then over night. To my surprise, it still didn't work in the morning.

Probably needs a new motherboard. I'm not sure if the power supplies on LCDs can get fried without causing other damage. We'll see what happens.

I had a neighbor once who lost most of his electronic equipment due to a power surge/outage. He ended up getting the power company to pay him for most of the replacement costs. You might want to look into that to see if it's a possibility for you.

    What brand was it?

I had a 32" Magnavox LCD that did the same thing. Luckily it was under warranty. It needed a new motherboard - had it not been under warranty, the parts and labor cost to repair would have been more than the cost of the TV to begin with....I saw the invoice for the parts at the repair shop...insane...

It's under warranty for another 10 months, but the brand is Element, so I'm worried that I'll have to ship it to Hong Kong or something to get it fixed. I never heard of Element before I bought the TV, but it had a better picture than the one I originally went to buy.

You should call the company and find out for sure.

What Magnavox (aka Phillips...who knew?) did was send me a list of authorized repair centers local to me. I took the TV there for the warranty repair and got it back about 8 weeks later.

Every company might not work like that, though.

I'm not sure what he did. You might want to call the power company directly, if you don't get any answers from them, you might want to check with your state utilities commission, or whatever state department oversees the utilities.

    Here is Elements support number.

For service, support, and warranty information, call 1-888-238-8123.

Good luck they are a Chinese company that I believe sell mainly through Circuit City.
