That is my 9yr old son holding the burms. Those are actually his, but i take care of them most of the time for him.. That's what good grades got him lol.. He is really into his snakes.. But since he does not live with me he doesn't get to handle them but on the weekends. When he does he keeps them out with him when he watches tv in his room.

thanks everyone. We are gonna start building a rack set-up today for the Bp's. I've begun to set up one of the basement rooms to use as our reptile room. I moved my snakes down there last night, then i ran across a problem with my big burmse. I was also breeding rats in the basement. And within 5 minutes of the burmse being down there, my male was trying like all heck to break out to get to the rats. I even had them in 2 different rooms. So i just moved the rats to my neighbors heated garage. He said i could continue to breed them there and his sons(my sons friends) would take care of them everyday for me. All i have to do is keep them stocked with the supplies.I plan on starting to breed mice in a few weeks as well..

    Re: New to site
sad to say they are both almost 3 yrs old. I got them from a friend who wanted to slow there growth and was only feeding them one rat a month.. They should be a great deal bigger then the 6ft(male) and 5.5ft (female) are, but, i have them on the right track now and they have grown a great deal in the 5-6mths that i have had them. They were original purchased to be breeders, but then he gave up for some reason. But they are in good hands now.

oh thats sad to slow their growth your supposed to feed them once every 2 weeks not once every month and are you talking about the bp or the burm

wait, feeding once every two weeks?! Who feeds theirs on that increment.. the balls here get ged every five days.
even if your talking about the bermese its suggested to feed them every 10 days

Drgndoor, good job for taking them in and caring for them! :gj: I wonder more long term just how stunted it will make them. Do you plan on breeding them eventually?

im not sayin that i feed my snakes once every 2 weeks im saying instead of once a month once every 2weeks is better right ?

    Re: New to site
If you look under the caresheet section of this forum and select the burmese python care sheet it will outline you should feed the snake on 10day increments, this is for the health of the snake, not for the benefit or convience of the owner.. From what I remember it didnt have a section for "how to slow growth" I do know feeding them on more frequent basis than 10 days will ensure faster growth but almost promises having an obese snake and thats not healthy either. I would suggest posting a thread if your interested in more information we dont want to hijack this thread :gj:

As for breeding them, i'm not real certain at this point. I think i want to focus on the BP for breeding.. And just keep my sons burmse for non breeding..
