Our Own Vet List
We've decided that it would be a nice addition to BPNet to create and maintain our own Exotics Vet List. A list by members for members, listing contact information for the vet and a short comment from the BPNet member recommending that particular vet/vet clinic. Please do not recommend a vet or clinic unless you have personally used them.
You can find the list here...
http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=56792
If you've used an exotics vet and found them helpful, informative, cost effective, etc. and want to recommend them to our members please send a PM to me and I will add them. The list will be broken down by geographic area and hopefully will be a helpful resource for our members here.
Please remember in your PM to give me the vet's name, clinic name, address and phone number, what types of herps this vet sees (they may be good with snakes but not so great with gecko's for instance) as well as a short comment from you. Member names will be posted with each comment. If the vet/vet clinic has a website feel free to include that if you wish. If you see a vet already listed, feel free to send me your own comment to add if you've also used this vet and would recommend their services.
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
I would also suggest we add bad vets to the list as well. If you have been to an exotic vet that you don't recommend (list the reason) that should be included too. Just my 2 cents.
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Sean, while I understand a bad vet visit is important information to know, I think as a site we would have to pass on your suggestion. Publically labelling a professional as "bad" might leave this site open to litigation. If a member has a problem with a vet and wants to talk about it in their own personal thread, that's another matter, but I think as a site we should probably just stick to the list we are now creating.
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Just a reminder to our members, this is meant to be an international list so where ever you live, if you have a good exotics vet - let us hear about it. :)
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Just wanted to send out a big thank you to the members who have submitted their favorite exotic vet for our list. Keep it coming folks. :)
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Sweet! But don't forget us here up North! I need to find a good herp vet around here and I'm still having a hard time! I can find the vets but not the good ones.

I was hoping that Canada got covered under the "international" vets I asked for LOL. I guess I should have said "non-USA" vets since I've only so far has vets located in the States submitted for the list.
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Just a reminder folks to submit your favorite herp vet so our list keeps growing. So far we've only had American vets submitted and I'd love to see this list be more helpful to our non-USA members as well as the USA list continuing to grow.
If you like your exotics vet, please PM me with the details and I'll happily add him/her to our permanent list of Exotic Vets. This is for vets that see not only snakes but lizards, torts, etc., basically any pet considered "exotic". :)
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Just a little reminder....
If you have a vet you like that sees your snakes, turtles, lizards, etc. please feel free to PM me the information and your comments so we can keep our Recommended Exotic Vets List growing. :)
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Thanks to missi182 we have our first Canadian submission to our Vets List! :)
We truly do want to make this as international a list as possible so please feel free to submit your vet's name no matter where you live.

Re: Our Own Vet List
I am very lucky that I found a reptile vet literally down the street from my house, it would be awesome to hear my vet is treating more reptiles than dogs and cats, because he very good with them:)
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
A good herp vet is gold! You're really lucky Missi to have one that close. We still miss our herp vet from back in Michigan. Dr. Pam not only had the skills but she truly loved working with the exotics.
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
Just bumping this to the front for a bit.
If you have a good herp/exotics vet please pm me and give me all the relevant info (refer to stickied list for what we need that way) so I can include them in our list. It's hard to find a good vet so let's help each other and share our favorite snake doctor. :)
-
Re: Our Own Vet List
A big thank you to the members of BPNet that have so kindly contributed the names of their preferred exotics vets. Let's keep this list growing and please remember this is not just for vets in the United States. We'd love to see vets from all over the world included in our Recommended Exotics Vets List. :)
http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...=671712#671712
To have your vet or vet clinic added just PM Joanna (frankykeno). Please include the vets full name, address and contact number for the clinic as well as a website addy if one is available. A short comment about why you like this particular vet/clinic is always appreciated. :)

Re: Our Own Vet List
I just tried to send a PM recommending my vet, but it says your mailbox is full. :( So if you don't mind, I'll post my message here instead...
Hi! I have an exotics vet to add for the city of San Francisco CA... I've only used them for my mammals thus far, but know they treat reptiles and have already consulted with one doctor about mine. Probably the ONLY exotics vet in the Bay Area, at least in San Francisco, so it would be nice to add them. :)
Here's their info...
All Pets Hospital
269 South Van Ness Ave
San Francisco, CA 94103
(415) 861-5725
Website: http://aphsf.com/
Reptile docs: Alex Herman & Nicola Gillespie
My comments: I have been seeing Dr. Alex Herman for my mammals, and she is wonderful... helpful, friendly, reptile enthusiast, and really seems to care about her patients. Haven't (luckily) had a need to take any herps there yet, but I'd have no qualms about using her when I do.

Re: Our Own Vet List
Hi,
I added that in for you. :gj:
I also changed the original post to say you can PM any member of staff about this and they will attend to it for you.

Is this still being updated on a regular basis? If so I have an addition for Mississippi. Being that there isn't a single submission for MS, it could potentially be very helpful.
Let me know if I should still send a PM, or if I should make a thread mentioning the Vet and his whereabouts.

They see just about anything. Dr. Morris is the 'exotic' vet on staff. He seems more on the end of reptiles, but will see all exotics. Dr. Morris isn't a 'specific' reptile vet, but is extremely knowledgeable in reptiles.
My personal experience with Dr. Morris came a few weeks ago when I took my new addition 1.0 Spider that I acquired from craigslist for a 'checkup' and possible RI. Vet visit was only $36 and I was seen directly at my appointment time. I received a call one week later from the staff to 'check' up on us and make sure everything was ok. A few days later I received a letter, along with a card, in the mail thanking me for my business and assuring me if I had an emergency that I could call at any time even after business hours.

I have two to add for Colorado Springs, CO - I've seen both of these vets. I lean towards Dr. Rahm though.

West End Veterinary Clinic
41 Fullerton Avenue
Newburgh, NY 12550
Dr. Don Factor - Fantastic doc for your herps. He really seemed to know his stuff well. I am well versed in herps and their care, diagnosis of health issues, and treatment. Dr. Factor was on point with everything, including proper husbandry for less kept species (Haitian boa in this particular case). The staff were all incredibly friendly and all interested in coming in to see the snakes I had brought and learn more while there. I even received two follow-up calls weeks apart to see how the snakes were doing while on their meds. I did, unfortunately, have a gravid female pass - not due to the health issue being treated - and Dr. Factor followed up with a hand written condolence note. Overall, the clinic is one of the best I've been to. Friendly, knowledgeable, and actually caring of every animal. A+ in my book.

Dr. Suzette Dibblee

7071 Bayers Road,
Halifax, NS, Canada

Tel: 902-443-9385
Fax: 902-445-4307
Dr. Dibblee is a great vet, She has a lot of experience with reptiles and when she is out of her depth she freely admits it and seeks an expert in that species or problem. She also listens carefully to the thoughts of the keeper and does not discount the ideas and experience out of hand. I personally do not expect a vet to know everything about all animals but I do expect them to admit when they do not know and seek advise for the issue. Suzette has demonstrated all of these traits in my dealings with her.

I have one to add, the first for Wisconsin!
Dr. Michael Wenninger
Spartan Animal Hospital
4811 Larson Beach Rd.
McFarland, WI 53558
(608) 838-6115
http://www.spartananimalhospital.com/
Dr. Wenninger has bred ball pythons in the past and currently breeds retics. He was therefore very comfortable handling my ball python while doing a wellness exam that included everything from weighing her to examining her heart with an ultrasound. He and his friendly staff happily answered all of my questions and confirmed that the research I had done on BP husbandry was accurate. I plan to take my Russian tortoise in for his wellness exam as well, and Dr. Wenninger mentioned that he enjoyed working with tortoises. He also comes highly recommended by both the Madison Area Herpetological Society and Reptile Rapture, a local reptile supply store.

Stevensville, MT 59870

Sapphire is my current vet. Husband and wife team, and both are great. Their kids own snakes. They're up front that they are a bit inexperienced with reptile medicine, but have always done plenty of research when I've needed their help and I've been satisfied with their quality of care. A vet that will actually take the time and listen as well as work together with you are worth their weight in gold. They see all my animals - snakes to cats to farm animals.

Dr. Young at Discovery Valley Animal Hospital in San Marcos, CA. http://discoveryvalleyvet.com/ 760-744-0032. He has worked extensively with exotic animals and quite often treats the reptiles/exotics at the SD Zoo and Safari Park. His prices are very fair and he has always been able to see me within 24hrs of calling max.

Minnesota Snake Vet
I would like to recommend Ark Pet Hospital, with vet Mary Phillippson. One of my snakes was growing extremely fast and i had doubts about his age/sex. She checked him out and ensured me (and showed me) that he was indeed a male, and was probably older than what I was told when I bought him. I also brought my other snake and she fell in love with his beautiful pattern and gave him a quick check up for free. The clinic had a special first time visit rate and I paid only $47. She was very knowledgeable, patient, and gentle with my boys. They didn't even flinch when she was checking for sex. She actually commented "you must have them quite well trained!". I said, "you must be extra gentle!"
They are located at 151 Sliver Lake Road, New Brighton, MN 55112. Phone #651-633-0567
This is a suburb of the Twin Cities Area.
Please add them to your vet list!
Thank you!

Need to update the list for Washington State. Dr Maas is no longer owner of Bothell Exotic. He was running ZooVet Consulting but I guess he has moved on to other stuff so might want to remove him from the list. I personally love Dr Bennett. She takes care of all my gals and guy.
