Has any one on here made their own adult BP rack? If so, could you please state how many tubs it can hold and how you made it? Please and thanks a bunch!!

I've made my own adult BP rack. I used 3/4" Melamine. It can hold up to 8 Adult tubs (2 tubs on each level; 4 levels).

Heres one I made (still under construction), it's not an adult rack though, more like sub-adult to small male 30qt tubs.

I have made a few adult Ball Python racks, and I created a DIY sheet on my website for three different racks. The CB-70 design is the one we house our adult Ball Pythons in. Here is the link www.baileyreptiles.com/diy.html .

I've built several that are very similar in design to Freakie Frog's. Here's a link to a pdf write up: http://www.blueappleherps.com/page13/page14/page14.html

Thank you all for the idea- their all great, and the instructions are perfect! Now my only question is, what type would you say works the best (in your oppinion, I think personally that belly-heat sounds good), and where to you get the proper things for heating (flexwatt, pads, ect.)? Please and thanks again :)

I like belly heat and I get all my flexwatt and thermostats from rich at Reptilebasics.com. Stand up guy great to deal with.

Thank you, I just checked out the site and I think thats where Ill purchasing my supplies for heating :) And I was reading about how the thermostate can be a bit off and how the rheostat needs very controlled room tempature- so for those of you with colder houses, what do you do do keep the heat up?

I second belly heat and using flexwatt from Reptilebasics. However, for controlling the heat you definitely want a high quality thermostat.

I personally went with the Herpstat Pro. I like it because it can independently control 4 different heat sources which is cheaper than buying 4 separate thermostats.

I use an oil filled heater to keep the room around 80-85 year a round and I use the Helix DBS1000 on all my racks. :D

Yea he will.. But I feel the need to clarify that you have to buy the cord and clips and he installs them for free.

Here is ours. My husband and I made it; I posted a thread last year about the building process. It is melamine that we had precut at Home Depot for free. I am heating it with a room temp of 80 degrees F. and Zoo-Med UTHs with rheostats. I am actually getting a new Helix for christmas (have one for my hatchlings and incubator; works GREAT!) and I will convert to Flexwatt on that.. I am counting the days. It is not that the UTHs are not good; they have served me well for years. But nothing beats a professional thermostat on flexwatt.

Did you every figure a way to keep your rack from sagging. (No pon intended) I was think of building one close to what you have. I was also planning on putting a back on it, and hope that it would keep the shevles from sagging.

    Thanks Richard

    Hi,

    I've been thinking about this as well and have a few ideas I'd like feedback on;

    a) Support struts on the back edge in a few points

    And,

    b) Recessing in a piece of angle iron along the front of the shelves and fixing it in with screws.

Do you think either of those would help if a rack started to sag?

    Re: Adult ball racks
Well I am thinking if you put a back on it and screw into each level it should keep it from sagging. It appears that the shelves are sagging in the center and the back should keep that from happening

    Re: Adult ball racks
I agree that a peice of wood covering the back would do wonders to strengthen your rack. It doesn't even have to be a thick peice of wood. A thin peice of panel board would be a perfect match.

I definately have to retrofit ours with a "spine" in back. I was thinking of getting casters and just doing both things. Kinda like cleaning a dog's teeth while it is already under anaesthesia for another procedure? :)
