Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
I have 0 friends that can actually name the breeds, sexes, names, and genetics of my snakes. I don't blame them, it is my hobby and not theirs.

Just curious what other's experiences have been... this could include the people in your house as well. It took me close to a year, but Jerome finally knows that names, sexes, and genetics of all my snakes. Ages... not so much, and a grasp of what those genetics mean (NOT A CHANCE!) :)

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
My family is as interested in my snakes as I am, so, yes, they know the names of all of them, their sexes, genetics and breeds. We do have two, where we are uncertain about sex, because subcaudal scale count is borderline.

My hubby and my oldest son can tell me what type of snakes we currently have and its name. When my two younger children (2 years old and 4 months old) can, they will also know the type of snakes, names and gender. My two year old knows that they are snakes, does that count? :D

I'm pretty sure that Joanna can name all my snakes and their genetics, as well as a handful of other members here (probably you as well! :P)

Does that mean I talk about them entirely too much?

    None not even my hubby!

The most my hubby knows is that I have some BP and some other snakes that are different  (Colubrids), beside that a snake is a snake

And when we go to a reptile show the only thing he pays attention to is the table with the crickets :rolleye2:

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
Well, just me and my boyfriend. Oh, and my brother knows that the sumatrans are "bloods" and different from Ball Pythons. But that's just about it. My family thinks I'm crazy and take care of "the boyfriends" snakes. I say heck no! Those babies are MINE :D

They also always ask, "What do you do with them?"

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
My son and I have 57 snakes. Not all even have names. One I've had since July, and only found out the breed a day or so ago (Herping in a local Grocery Store thread in Field Herping forum). So, even I can't name all the names. But now that I know my elaphe obsoleta (actually pantherophis obsoleta) is actually Pantherophis emoryi, I do know all the breeds, sex, and genetics... umm, well, I guess I don't actually know the sex of the rat snake or my bull snake, but I don't plan to breed either of them, so its not important to me. My son Adam also knows sex, breeds and genetics (except for the two I mentioned). Ain't no way he knows as many names as I do, though. So, I'll have to vote 0.

Not a single person, my 8yr old son knows that my lemon pastle is indeed a "lemon". but at first he said " but dad it's a snake not a lemon". but the other five all look normal. and the other family members what nothing to do with them. It's totally just my son and my hobby and thats it.

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
None of the people close to me have much of an interest in the snakes. More for me, bwahaha! My best friend helps me out checking ads for any nice specimens, but keeps sending me links to boas and burms. Bless his heart though, he's trying. :gj:

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
My kids (7 & 9 1/2) would come the closest. They can identify most of the breeder geckos and they know all of the snakes by name and at least sort of by morph. My son has a basic grasp of the genetics concept - that's a work in progress. :)

Too funny but I bet I can! I remember back when you were grumbling at me and Mike naming all our snakes these odd celtic/gaelic names that you couldn't remember how to spell!

Let's see....the kids have a decent grasp of the basics of who can make what but not really advanced yet. Mike and I basically talk more about the sex lives of our snakes than our own.

That give you any hint about life in the Franchino family! :D

My fiance knows what I have and what the morph and sex of them are. as far as what makes what that is another story. My five year old daughter knows we have ball pythons. but she is not thoroghly indoctrinated yet. that is about it though.

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
I only have one snake... so its easy for most people to at least know his name.

My boyfriend knows everything about Stan - and everyone at my job at least knows who Stanley is... but that is about all they know about him.

My boyfriend, and maybe one or two of my friends. Possibly my mom, depending on how much she is actually listening when I'm rambling on about snakes. For most people, all they want to know is "do they bite". Lame :(

Re: Who can actually name your snakes and their genetics?
Yeah I dont have anyone who can properly name my snakes species and genetics. Even my friend who is into snakes(boas only) can't get it into his head that my borneo STP and Sumatran red are two different snakes. Sad part is its not that difficult because I only have 6 normals bp's, 2 pastels, 1 mojo, 1 norm Red tail, a bino red tail, then my borneo and sumatran bloods. THats really not a whole heck of a lot to remember.
