We've got babies!

Finally after trying for awhile we have our first group of baby mice. Yeah! I was just sitting here reading the forums and heard squeaks. Go and look over at our one tub and low and behold tiny hairless pink things. lol

I'm so happy, but I will leave them alone as I don't want to jinx myself. Reason being, we bought a 1.3 awhile back and after months still no babies, so the bf fed them off. Then we purchased a 1.2 and thought we'd be having babies soon as the biggest female was very large. But one morning woke up and she was dead. The female she was with had been chasing her around for a week biting her so we figured she must have killed her. Now this is the female that just today had the babies. So hopefully she will be ok. Male is being a great daddy.

Then to top that off, last weekend I bought another 1.2 and before I even got home one of the females was dead. Either she was sickly or the other female killed her as well. :(

So right now we have the two set of 1.1 in seperate tanks. Maybe the females I get just don't like to share their males. lol

Just wanted to share the good news and hopefully I'll get to update after awhile that they are all doing great and report on how many babies there are. :)

oh and just to add, we are hoping to let all the babies grow up to adults as all the snakes feed on adults now.

I couldn't help but look since mom and dad were away for a second eating, but I counted 9 little babies! But I'll leave them alone for awhile now. :)

Not sure if 9 is good for a first time mom, but I don't mind. Now if I can just keep the boyfriend from taking one and feeding it to the Tokay. :bonk:

Just wanted to update on our babies. Either I miss counted or we lost one of the babies as there is only 8. Bf swears he didn't take one to feed the Tokay. But the remaining 8 are doing great! They are 12 days old now and are just so cute!

I've already gotten two other tubs ready for the babies when they are weaned as I'll seperate the sexes.

They are adorable, but I found them very frustrating. Out of 5 pregnancies, we only got two from one litter and four from another that survived cannibalism. I gave up and fed them all off. I wish you better luck with yours.

I had found years ago that mice like there privacy. I bred in tubs about 12 x 18 x 6 inches deep and they did very well. I had them setup 1.4 to 1.5

I just have to keep telling myself they are food so not to get attached to them. But they are so darn cute. lol

I am using 30qt Rubbermaid Latchtoppers sweater boxes. Here is a link to the site I found the idea from. It's the lower rack system.

I only have the two set up for the breeders and then two for the weanlings to seperate the sexes. And I'm using a different type of shelf. But I do like the idea of the bottles in the lid. So far it's working well for me.

Goodie! Our second female had her babies yesterday! I think I counted 7, but didn't mess with them too much. So no telling if there is more.

As for the first set of babies they are now 18 days old and are hopping about every where, which I can see why they call them hoppers. :) Just a couple more days and I'll need to start thinking of moving them into their new homes. Just hope I do a good job of sexing them. lol Any suggestions would be good.

More babies from our first set of parents. I just barely got their first babies into another tank and she dropped 10 more babies the next morning. :) They are now fuzzies and there are 10 of them. I'm starting to think I should have gone with all white mice. They are just too cute when they are colored.

So far we now have 25 babies at different stages. Bf thinks we might have too many now with just the 2 snakes. But I keep telling him we have to let them all grow up to adult size to feed our snakes. So once they are old enough to be sexed they go into different tanks to just get fat and wait for their turn.

But I think I'll let the moms have a rest here soon. That should help.

They are adorable at that stage! I'm waiting for my group of 1.2 to produce. First female didn't produce after a month so I gave up on her. We are keeping her as a pet for now.
