Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
Looks like there are plenty of knowledgeable corn snake keepers around here. I've got quite a few morphs of them, but there are two that keep me confused. I picked up a candy cane just a few weeks ago and a creamsicle and except for a lavender band around the pattern of the creamsicle I cannot tell them apart. I've asked on several boards now, but can't find anyone, who can tell me, if there are any other "markers". So, here are some pics and if anyone could enlighten me I would sooo very much appreciate it.
My candy cane, Tic Tac:

The creamsicle, Sniff:

And a closeup of the lavender colored band around the pattern of the creamsicle, which is btw fading:

Its true some of the corn snake morphs are real close to others in colors and its kinda hard telling them apart :P.Either way they are both cool looking :gj:.

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
I compared pictures of amels online with Sniff and I think you are right: Sniff seems to be an amel.
The lady that breeds them is very clean and great to deal with, but I don't think she's able to tell the different morphs apart. She had several corn babies that she showed me and called them lavenders. Well, I have a lavender and I know about the ruby-red eyes and her's, although very pretty, had the typical amber ring around the iris.
Thank you very much Joe!

No problem :gj:.If she is like me "color blind" it can be hard telling some apart from others :P.If you dont mind how much does she charge for her corns?

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
Ok, why is that snake an Amel?? I ask because my first corn is an Amel and he is bright orange! Is there a wide variation in the colors of Amel corns? Mine is also 100% Het Snow, tho I doubt that would show up visually.

In pictures they do not show thier full color brightness, tis the reason i said it looked more like a Amel then a creamsickle ;).Now if you breed your corn to a snow half the babies will be snows. You are correct about it not showing any sign of being a het for snow :D.

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
Argentra, Joe is correct as to the colors not showing up well in pictures. After he suggested that Sniff might be an amel I googled pictures of them and came across several that look just like him on the picture (!).

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
Both of those snakes are amels.
A candycane is just a line bred amel. As is a sunglow for example. They are all homozygous amel. Candycanes are called that because you want them to have as white as possible backgrounds; minimal orange. It's hard to tell from the pic, but I'm not so sure how well of a candy cane yours will turn out (I'm not saying that to be offensive or anything!). The thing with candycanes is that they're called that based solely on their looks; nothing to do with parents or anything. "Normal" amel parents can throw candy cane offspring; and candycane parents can throw "normal" amels. So with candycanes you have to base it on how white the base color is. Far too often I've seen people selling regular amels as candycanes mostly because the parents were candycanes; that doesn't automatically mean all their offspring will be candycanes...
Now creamsicles on the other hand is used simply to indicate that there is emoryi blood in them and that they are hybrids. You can have candy cane creamsicles, and so forth. It's simply to identify snakes that are not pure corn. Whether or not its 50/50 or 90/10 corn/emoryi, it is still proper to identify them as creamsicles if you know they have emoryi blood in them.

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
Interesting... in those pics the snakes look distinctly red, whereas all the pics of Aries I have taken make him look dayglo orange :)

Not saying I don't believe you, of course... just saying that he looks a lot different from that other snake. :) Thanks for the info tho.

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
I have 4 corns that I breed every year my amels produce some real high contrast babies which I could easly sell for candy cane or make up some morph that sounds good, but I just trade or whole sale them,Ive seen washed out amels at shows that people are selling for $75 to $100 calling them candycane creamcicle etc.,when my amel babies would put them to shame, maybe I need to get smart & sell mine like that but Im just a hobbiest, don't know about every new morph out there.just my 2 cents. When I hatch my babies ill post some pics & everybody can tell me what I got,Im real excited about this year because I have a female that is really alot of white & my male has alot of orange can't wait to see what I get!!

Re: Candy cane/Creamsicle ID
My guess is that both of those are just amels.
You might have a candy cane but you really won't know until it matures.
While the creamsicles are hybrids they are also generally low white. Mostly orange and yellow.
I got some from BHB years ago that had practially no white on them at all. They threw some really orange and yellow babies. When you saw them next to the amels there was no doubt who was who.
Lines have been mixed and diluted since then and it's not so easy to tell anymore.
You should get cool looking babies either way though.
