How do you get over an addiction to internet forums?
Guys, I think I need a 12 step program. I noticed that there's no such thing as, "Let me check to see if anyone responded to my subscribed threads real quick."

Any ideas on how to curb my addiction? Or any other stories you'd like to share about forum addictions? Just wondering, since I know I'm not alone here. :D

Yup, I'm just the same. I leave the page open all day and just check new posts whenever I'm passing the computer. I have to constantly remind myself to post in my D&D game threads and do my homework instead of hanging around here all the time...just ask Ari :D

You could always set parental controls against yourself and block the site... or visit several innapropriate sites and get your comp so full of unwanted pop-ups that you refuse to use it often.

My husband offered to do that for me. I said, "NO WAY!"

I don't want to quit, just reduce how much time I spend on here. I think some other things are being neglected.

Thanks for the love, right back 'atcha! :rolleye2:

I do really enjoy it here. I am not sure if I am more addicted to the site or our snakes. My husband said you all would respond by saying, "Get more snakes." The idea behind it was, the more snakes I have, the less time I'll have to surf. I thought it was a grand idea! :snake: :snake: :snake: :snake:

Now: 1.0 Normal BP and 1.0 Normal KSB... later 0.1 Morongo Valley Rosy Boa, 1.0 Albino BP, 0.1 Piebald BP, ....? Just need the cash!!! :8:

I am totally addicted to this site. I'm always reading posts, asking questions, answering other questions, checking my inbox. It really is an addiction I tell you. An addiction with no cure!:D

Take right now for instance. I have to leave for work in about 10 min and I still have not gotten a shower. lol.

Step 1 is admitting of your addicition, your obviously still in the denial phase! Maybe the 8ball chat can become our weekly AA meeting of sorts.

Not the point, point is to tell others who think you have an addicition that the 8ball chat is an "online therapy session", when in turn its actually making our addiction stronger!

Um... yeah. I think adding an addiction to cover another addiction does not lead to recovery.

I only visit forums when I'm at work...and I do more work now at work, so I have less time to visit...

So...work more, less free time to forum-ize...

    Kinda boring, but hey.

(oh yeah, buy more snakes /nod)

Get a second, or third, job. And spend more time with family! I have about 15 minutes of unfettered internet time as my life is now. I am too busy earning money or spending time with family for overdoing it online! Seriously.. I would hate for someone close to me to pass away and have regrets about not spending time w/ them because I was online.

Re: How do you get over an addiction to internet forums?
I don't think spending a lot of time on one forum is really an addiction. When I first started with the forums I was a member of more forums than I can even remember at this point. I would spend hours going to each forum to post the same pictures and ended up having the same conversations on all of them with the same people from the other forums I was a member of. I actually run across a "new" forums every once in a while and try my user name and old passwords to see if I have an account and I normally do.

Between my computer crashing and loosing my bookmarks and more recently dealing with all the bs that seems to flood other forums I have cut back considerably on the number of forums I post to. I still spend a few hours daily on my forum and only post to a couple others now.

If you really want to cut back on the ammount of time you are online simply turn off your computer and go do something that you will enjoy and will take your mind off of it. Watch a movie, play a game, etc. (The Wii is a great way to find something else to do.)
