I'm Sorta NEW!
My name is Rachel, and I have lurked around this forum quite a bit, but haven't posted very much. I finally decided to give in and buy a BP today at the Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo. I am very excited about her! She is a normal, but very pretty and golden. I hope she eats for me in a few days!
I have two cornsnakes, so I am not totally new to this, but I am still looking around and learning about balls. I'm sure I'll be bothering you guys with questions soon, so thank you in advance for being great helpful people!!!!

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
I will post many pics once
1. I figure out how to do it so that the pics aren't thumbnail size
2. my new BP has settled in and eaten her first meal!
(Oh, by the way, is it alright if I feed her in her viv or do I need to take her out like you do with cornsnakes?)
pending those considerations, I am sure pics will be forthcoming!!!

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
the easiest way (for me) to post pics is to upload them to photobucket then past the img code here! as far as ur question... it's kind of a debate, some say you do need to feed in a separate box, some say you don't. i used to feed in a separate enclosure but not anymore.

Hey Rachel, welcome to the site!...its the best one for BP's on the net!

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
Thanks for the welcome, guys! I'll be on the watch for that tutorial.
Well, I figure I'll feed her in her tank because I am not too afraid of being bitten anyways. If she has any issues, I'll feed her somewhere else. I just want to make sure she eats! I hear all sorts of horror stories about feeding!
Thanks again!

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
Hi LadyOhh (Heather, right?). Yeah, i found this girl at the show and couldn't go home without her hahaha. Thank you for your helpfulness, though. If I ever buy another, I'll definitely contact you if you have any available!
That's cool that you have the same name on both sites... at least this isn't like the "which Tim is Tim" discussion I had on chat at cs.com hahaha (several Tims were online at once).

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
Rachael,
It is much easier to be the same SN everywhere. Less confusion that way. :)
Glad to see you here, and glad to hear you got a new critter!

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
Welcome to BPNet, Rachel. You can use a free program like this one http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm that will crop and resize your pictures for forum use, then either upload them into your free BPNet gallery or a site like www.photobucket.com for hosting. Just put the IMG tag into your post and you're set. Nate's video tutorial is amazing and I'm sure once he posts it for the members it will be a huge help.
Don't be too worried about the feeding issues. A lot of ball pythons have that reputation undeservedly when it's more about how they are kept. We have 18 of them from little 07's up to mature adults. Last feeding night, 16 fed strongly and immediately, 1 is a wild caught rescue and normally is fasting this time of year and 1 refused for the first time in her life. That's what the reality is for most of us, if they are kept correctly and fed appropriately...they really don't deserve the "poor feeders" rep they have. :)
We also feed all of them in their own home enclosures.

Re: I'm Sorta NEW!
Thanks for the welcome, guys! I am very excited about my new snake...now I have to think of a name!
I'm in the process of working out the quirks of her enclosure to get the correct temps and humidity, but it seems to be getting there pretty well. She mostly hangs out on the warm side in her hide sleeping, so I guess she's pretty happy. she bumbles about at night though hahah.
She also drinks a ton.....especially when I first brought her home from the expo..I guess the poor girl was stressed and thirsty. It's a good thing I didn't spend a lot of time there and got her home right away.
I'll try feeding tomorrow..if all goes well, maybe I'll take some pics too!
